    Hi all
Just wondering if any of the students studying Social Studies (Social Work) could give an insight int the course, timetable, course work, placements any info at all regarding this course.
I am hoping to gain a place in 2012 and really interested to know more.

    Cheers :)

So its a 4 year course in TCD, each year the course work gets heavier i.e. based more on S.W...But in the first year you start off with broad topics like Political Science, S.W ethics, values, theories, economics, sociology, psychology.
2nd year moves into more policy based work like health policy, housing, and more specific subjects in sociology like gender, body. Also crime, family law, social research etc. Then 3rd and 4th year are more s.w orientated-child protection, mental health, family policy etc.

Timetable is grand, 3rd and 4th year are busy, lots of projects, essays.

Every year you do a block placement, starting off in community work then 3rd and 4th year is social work

It's a hard course, you HAVE to want to do this. I'd advise if you have any doubts sort this out in 1st/2nd year as 3rd year is too late. If you like working with children-do it, if you care-do it...If you want it for money-don't, because your unsure of what path to take? I would say this is a good grounding course for perhaps going further into more specific masters or research.

    Any more questions?
