Im willing to accept the six months but im really worried what extent of damage the scan shows .

Cruciate Ligament injuries cannot be under stated when talking about the seriousness and long term effects that they can have on a sporting professional .

If six months it is then fine, but i hope thats all Lucas has to face :o

News going around now that Lucas is out for the season.

Back from #LFC team hotel in London and Lucas says he thinks he will be out for 6 months. Fearing the worst but has a knee scan tomorrow.

I know there has not been a scan yet, but players tend to know the severity without confirmation.

Jerry Seinfeld - that is the worst sig I have ever seen.
Some may laugh but lets not forget Jay Spearing, I for one thought he had a good game last night & he didnt let us down last season towards the back end of the season when Stevie G was out....

All this talk of John W opening the checkbook, lets not panic, with Stevie G back soon to slot into that position along with Spearing & Henderson, I would rather see the a cheque being written for a right/left winger i.e. Adam Johnson, Affellay, etc....

Totally disagree. Gerrard can no longer be relied upon. How many games has he been available for in 2011? Likewise, Spearing is simply not good enough and we will miss out on a top 4 position if we are forced to play him as our DM for the majority of games.

Adam, Henderson, Spearing and an extremely injured prone Gerrard makes us very weak in that position.

i'd have faith with spearing over the next few games alongside adam.

i think hes more than capable of fulfilling the lucas role to an acceptable level against the likes of fulham, wolves, etc

Has there been any word on Gerrard at all? Seems strange that no sort estimation was given for his return date.

Missing approx 3 games was the press release weeks and weeks ago.

I posted at the time of a rumour around Liverpool which was saying that he had no chance of being back after three games and as to what the medical condition was rumoured to be.

Kenny came out in the first few days of November to say the rumour was untrue, but here we are another four weeks later and no sign.

he's too techncially good to be classed as a Mascherano type. his passing range has evolved beyond Masch's.

I thought Mascherano was fairly overrated by us - and I could get slated for that but imo, he was the first name in a team sheet when playing Chelsea, Arsenal, United and the big guns who had to be stopped.

Put him up against a team who'll park the bus and his passing ability or lack thereof was shown up big time.

People gave Lucas abuse a few seasons ago for passing sideways - even then I thought Masch was worse

"JenChang88: But a serious injury might force LFC's hand in Jan for a CM. LFC have scouted Twente's Leroy Fer (along with striker Luuk de Jong) recently."

Anyone heard of these two before?

Interesting name to drop, but I would prefer Moussa Sissoko or Yann M'Vila as both play in a similar style to Fer, especially Sissoko, but look to have far more quality about them.

You're a fan of M'Villa and Sissoko? Never knew.

    M'Vila would be a miracle.

Terrible news if he is out for 6 months, best player imo so far this season for us. Some may laugh but lets not forget Jay Spearing, I for one thought he had a good game last night & he didnt let us down last season towards the back end of the season when Stevie G was out....
Spearing will fill the role to a certain extent against the lesser sides but lets not forget all his best form has come with lucas guidin him.. lets hope hes learned enough off him cos its gonna be a big loss either way :(

    Just a tad. :D

Gary Medel could be a good fit as well.

Martinez would also be a cracking buy, but I reckon he would cost more than M'Vila.

In order of cost from the cheapest to the dearest (guesstimation of course)

    Medel
    Sissoko
    M'Vila
    Martinez.

Would love to see us try for Markus Henrikssen as well. He is young but looks quality already in the way that players like Alonso look good at a young age.

And if we want to go into fantasy football mode,:D lets bring in Christian Eriksen for the CAM role because I think this January or summer will be the last time he will be available for under 30m .

Ahh it always feels good to dream. :)

Aye he would cost a bit, but just imagine him as our steel in the centre. Would be like having a force of nature in midfield.

A quick wiki shows that luuk de jong has some impressive stats, and we all know how the americans like their stats

if we're to get him, we have to move in January, or in the summer, before the inevitable Real Madrid interest, where he'll be played at RB or something.

but it's not going to happen.

mainly seen as he and Lucas wouldn't work (look at the Masch/Lucas combo of previous years).

    good God...the pain...

Leroy Fer is a great shout .

I hope those rumours are true .

Any idea of price range ?

Neither would be any use filling in for Lucas. Henderson is better suited to fill that position than either of them.

Presume that if lucas is out for an extended period of time that shelvey wont be sent back out on loan.

I know they are different types of players but at least we'll have [RAFABENITEZ]options[/RAFABENITEZ]

Perhaps Henderson will go down the same route as Lucas - play in the middle and look out of his depth (although I doubt he will) only to turn into a world beater in no time :pac:

Breaking: Liverpool have recalled Jonjo Shelvey from Blackpool after Lucas' injury last night.

For those who like a read (and not just the pics :pac:)

Here is an article written (by the excellent Tangerine Dreaming that i posted about Charlie Adam last year) about Shelvey's time there.

I watched yann m'vila play against Celtic and he was one of the worst players on the pitch. Its hard to make Celtic look a decent side. He made one great tackle, other than that he just gave the ball away any time he had it, his distribution was pathetic. Have you seen much of him?. Google tells me he has played 15 games this season, 0 goals (fair enough for where he plays), 2 assists. Anyone follow Ligue 1 closely enough to know just how good he is?.

Gutted for Lucas. Gutted for us too, he was flyin'. Fcks sake, memories of Lampard doing Xabi..

While I can see why they've recalled Shelvey I'm wondering if this is going to do him any good, he was in a groove scoring and assisting by playing quite high up, at Liverpool one presumes he'll be asked to play deeper and that's if he is playing at all. Spearing and Adam would seem to be the obvious paring in the short term. A place on the bench is of little help to Jonjo.

He is still learning and while the bench won't help him massively - being put in at the deep end like Lucas was might give him a steep learning curve in positional sense and help him to learn how to be a better CM.

From the article Dathaijjj posted about his time thus far with Blackpool it seems he has alot in his arsenal, however his discipline and ability to cope when under pressure on the ball need to be tested.

Getting some game time at a higher level may not be what he's quite ready for yet but I think he'll learn more if he's forced to do so for us than he will playing with Blackpool.

If its a cruciate injury then 6 months is the earliest he will be back , id be shocked if he made it back in that timeframe though. Fingers crossed its only a medial ligament or cartilage type injury , if so he will be out for at least 4/5 weeks in the best case scenario.

they're all decent players but we don't have a hope in hell of champions league football with spearing, adam, henderson and shelvey as our midfield options, we need a world class defensive midfielder badly in january and for gerrard to get fit

lucas was absolutely flying it, in the form of his life and reaching world class levels - it's a hammer blow and we need to act, three signings now needed in january = right winger, defensive midfielder and striker, we'll need around 60 mil
