Data Collection

Hey there, can anyone recommend somewhere on campus where I can collect data for my thesis. It needs to be relatively quiet and private. I don't have access to the library so that is not an option. I am familiar with the campus but I just can't think of anywhere.

I have tested people previously in a testing room in the Lloyd building, which a PhD student was able to book for me but I haven't been able to get in touch with them to book it again.

I'd appreciate any advice, thanks

Are you affiliated with any of the departments in Trinity? What does your data-collecting require?

No I am not, I am studying at the Psychology Dept in NUI Maynooth but a number of my participants are Trinity students so I am attempting to accomodate them by coming to their campus.

My data collection consists of a computer task on my laptop and some other pen and paper tasks. I only require a quiet place with a table and chair. One of my previous participants was able to book a room for me but as I said I haven't been able to get in touch with them.

I really want to get this data collection finished!

I know people from DCU who have been able to ask their college for access to trinity library. It got them a day-pass or something, maybe you should ask your college about it and see if you can get a study room booked.

Yes, I could probably get access for the day to the library but you can only book study rooms for 2 hours at a time and you have to be registered to book. I would need somewhere for the full day. Also I will need to be able to make noise, i.e. the participant and I will be speaking to each other aloud during testing.

The Psychology department have a couple of small testing rooms that would probably fit the bill, though I don't know if they're available to outside researchers. No harm in asking, though! Good luck!

Maybe you can find someone who is involved in one of the societies who will be able to give you access to a society room? There are also areas of campus that are fairly quiet most of the time, you could try asking if anyone in House 6 has room. Or maybe there would even be someone living on campus who would be willing to lend you their living room.
