Among generations born maybe... the late 60s onwards, it's probably more likely you'd get hassle moreso for being religious than for being atheist. In non rural communities anyway.

Although on Boards, to some, if you're an atheist full stop, you're smug apparently.

There's just the 4 gays in Corrie I think, really it's 2 main characters and their partners. If anything there may even be an underrepresentation of gays in UK soaps but there HAS to be one at all times. :pac:

I believe strongly in a complete British withdrawal from this Island, and the establishment of 32 county Socialist Republic based on the 1916 proclamation
I have always supported any republican groups that have taken actions in name of the above.

To add I dont support Sinn Fein, I believe they have abandoned traditional republican values and sold out hundreds of men and women who gave their lives or served time in British and Southern prisons for the Republic

I never understood why having that opinion is so taboo and even alot of Irish people are hostile to it

But its my opinion and wont be changing

My heart wants a united Ireland, but not my head - it would likely lead to terrible problems. It's not the fault of decent unionists that their ancestors settled there hundreds of years ago - and it's only right that their tradition be respected also.

It's a difficult situation I know, but whatever outcome is the most peaceful one is all I'd wish for.

There are 6 LGBT characters right now, Sophie, Sian, Sean, Marcus, Hayley and Amber. The Daily Mail and it's ilk have been going nuts lately about it. What's a bit unrealistic isn't the amount of gay characters, it's Manchester - if anything there would possibly be more. But that nearly every family has at least one LGBT immediate family member, like Todd Grimshaw, Ted Nugent and James Barlow. Some of them are just ridiculous. Friend of a friend of someone I know has 3 kids by 3 fathers and she's not 20 yet. Was pregnant again within 3 weeks of having the last kid and say she doesn't know who the father is.

Cutting lone mother benefits won't solve the problem of women from neglectful backgrounds lacking education having kids - all it will cause is the kids being further deprived.

A lot of people have more important things to be worried about than a political ideology - such as providing for their kids. And I doubt you'd really like ireland to be more screwed for money than it already is.

1. Not unpopular I would imagine, but I hate how most threads on AH at some stage will deteriorate into an English/British/Irish/Northern/Occupied Territories bulls**t slagging match completely unrelated to the thread title. I'm sure Britain would love to cast off the millstone round it's neck that is Northern Ireland and have they not agreed to give it back as soon as you can all agree on it ? Until then give it a rest, it's so boring...!

2. I am completely against this complete and utter devotion and adoration we are meant to show for our children. We should keep them warm, fed and housed, raise them with good social skills and ethics and provide them with love - beyond this we are not obliged to provide any more and I will not alter my life to accommodate any child.

3. If I want to have a crafty fag when I'm pregnant then I will. I may even have a couple of glasses of wine with it.

4. If I mistakenly fall pregnant (anyone who thinks mistakes/accidents don't happen is delusional) and want to abort the child then I should be able to of my own accord. If I'm not ready for a child why should my fully fledged life be sacrificed for the life of an unformed, unnamed and unwanted foetus.

5. Tayto crisps suck !!!

Ah I love The Dubliners, they're far and away my favourite band, but there are plenty of amazing traditional bands around. I wouldn't call The Dubliners trad anymore, more folk.

More recently: Lunasa, Beoga, Dervish, Deanta, Teada, Danu, KAN, Flook, Mise, Grada, Four Men and A Dog. And then bands like The Bothy Band, Planxty, De Dannan, The Chieftains etc.

Exactly. I'd rather have few quid to give my kids a decent upbringing than have the north as part of Ireland.
Anyway, the united ireland folk always ignore the little problem of all people up north that don't want it.
