I was designing some stuff for my blog last night and got a bit carried away. In the end I made this. Can you guess what it is?

Sorry for the watermarks, I'm going to use it on my blog and don't want it robbed... yet. Not that you lot would but you know what I mean (it was uploaded to a public image host). :)

Have you drawn any fun retro stuff?

Yup it's my Astro cabinet (or supposed to be anyway). Didn't make it with Minecraft though, I've actually never played that game.

Tallon is a fan of it though... ;)

My plan is to pick up a 3D printer in the next 6-12 months.

It would be cool to create and print lots of 8bit artwork on it like that candy you did and so many other things.

I've used a 3D printer before and its the business.

That would be cool. I'd like a little collection of cab models. Like the Shooting Game Historica models.

I guess given 3D printing limitations you'd need to print to a white material first and just add your own decals afterwards. Similar to airfix or gunpla decal application.

Personally I'd love models of an Astro City, Aero City and a Capcom Mini Cute and have Gundam models sat playing them. :D

No, you can print in colour if you get a good enough printer.
Your talking big money for it though.

You can design your own stuff and send the files off to be printed by various companies if you have something you really need or want.

Didn't know that! I thought we were still in the single colour wax cast days. :)

I wonder how much a print out of my model (as an example) would cost?

    Check out http://www.shapeways.com

Depending on size and detail its not as pricey as you might think.

Few examples, you can see the printed out version and also the model in the photos:

    Edit:
Here's a model I just created really quickly.
    http://www.shapeways.com/model/386637/

    Measurements: 1.2 w x 1.2 d x 0.2 h (inches)

It would cost about 4 Euro to get it printed in basic white flexible.
So the bigger you go the more it costs and if you want fancy materials or metals or gold etc it will cost more.
