Pacer gun and chip times for the Dublin Marathon 2011

Below are the official times at halfway and finish, for the Dublin Marathon pacers. Everyone hit the times they were expected to- half and full times are from the time the gun goes, and the more accurate chip time shows time from crossing the start line to crossing the finish line. The pacers performed admirably on the day, ran the steady pace they were scheduled for, and helped thousands of runners hit their intended time target.
As one of the organizers of the pacers, I'd like to publicly thank all of them for adding so much to the race.

Thanks also to the lad who took the 4:15 balloon from KB.

He managed to catch back up to the group and was still on pace when I blew up at 21 miles.

The halfway mats were a good 100m after the halfway point. I rem going through in 1.45 dead. Just to get that of my chest.
It was the same last year.

was the mats off or the inflatable half way sign?
i would have thought 1:45:22 was perfect split considering the profile of the course and the wind

They caught me out as well. After my pit stop I thought I had got back on time going under the sign only to see the mats further up the road:mad:.

It certainly is, and I wanted to point it out because of a growing number of stories that pacers had missed their targets, dropped out en masse, ran far too fast/slow, blitzed the first half and then walked the rest, different pace bands running together, etc, etc. Hard to believe, but those stories are doing the rounds. As can be seen from the figures above, every single pacer did the job that was required of them, and its not an easy job to do.

They put the big sign there because its the nearest place they can tie the sign to as the traffic lights are there on both sides of the road. The mats were the right spot but they have nothing to tie the signs to hence the difference.

pacers did a great job, especially the talking and trying to get the crowd (more) involved in the last mile or two. My thanks to the 3.30 guys, even if i did fall behind in the last few hundred yards, there is no way i'd have run such a good race without ye.

Pacers did a great job - was with the 5 hour lads and have recorded my thanks on other threads - certainly wouldn't have come in under 5 hrs without them and the manner of getting there in the end (17 secs to spare !) made it for me. :) However, while I went with them, I was always conscious that my time was up to me - the pacers are a guide but it is the responsibility of each individual to get there in the end. As far as I am concerned there is no place for criticism even if they messed up (which is not the case here). Great work -thanks again.

    +1 on above
I didn't get to run with the pacers this year. Tried with the 4:30s for a bit but had to let them go and then i was adamant not to meet the 5 hr pacers (no Offence guys) ;) Hopefully next year i will be with the 4:30 guys all the way around
