ok i just got my new macbook pro last week and as much as it hurts me i need to put windows on it for a few programs that i need to college. i have read that i can only run windows 7 on bootcamp 4, i have access to xp disks so is there anyway i can get bootcamp 3 and run xp on the partition with lion or is bootcamp 4 the only version that runs on lion? also i was reading about setting up windows on a mac and its says that i need the mac install disks to complete the set up but apple dont provide OS disks with their machines any more which is very annoying. so is there a way to get xp on my 10.7 macbook pro and if not is there any kind souls out there who have a load of windows 7 install disks?

    thanks for the help

http://www.software4students.ie/ is your best bet, Windows 7 isn't free unfortunately, some colleges have access to MSDN Edu so check if you have, sometimes Windows 7 pro is available for free for certain courses

If you want to use Windows XP then you can't use Bootcamp. You're only option is to run XP in a virtual machine.

    Parallels Desktop : €79.99
    VMware Fusion : $49.99
    VirtualBox : Free

You can get 30 day trials of the Parallels and VMware products. I used to be an advocate of Parallels Desktop but since upgrading to OS X Lion I have found VMware Fusion to be the better product.
