Upgrade time some advice on P67 boards and build.

Lads,

Just wondering if you could give me some advice on an upgrdade, I've got a couple of years out of a Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard with a Core duo CPU 2.66Mhz and 4gig of DDR 2 ram now I'm going to use the same PSU Harddrives and ATI graphics card. So it's going to be a general use PC as it is now, Kids play the sims on it, I want to do some video editing and some gaming.

From reading some of the posts here some are going for ASrock P67 motherboard for around €85 is this a good motherboard? Any others in or around this price better?

On the CPU front will probably go for an I5 2500K

Need some advice on DDR3 ram for this MB & CPU want to get 8gig I take it 12gig would be overkill for my needs?

I'm also going to go for a Crucial M4 SSD drive as it gets good comments on here.

Any advice appreciated

The Asrock Pro3 is one of the better value boards - of course this depends on where you're buying.

12GB is overkill. 4GB is probably enough but 8GB is very good value so go for that, in my opinion. Buy 2x4GB so you'll still have two free slots even if you do decide to upgrade. Buy 1.5V RAM.

2500K + M4 are good choices.

how much video editing? if you're not sure, or are amateurish, I'd imagine 8gb is enough, but some of the guys on here mention that they Max a full 16gb but I assume its because of mixing several HD streams.

what's your budget?

budget between 400 and 500 euros, no not that much video editing to be honest standard def DVI tapes to DVD probably, will probably just go with 2 sticks of 4GB then and recommendations to cheap stable ram to match the ASRock board, that will allow a certain amount of overclocking on the 2500K?

I'll use my Lian Li P60 case and existing sata drives for storage, gonna buy off Amazon as I've a £180 voucher to use which will bring the cost to around €360

Any opinions on this board?

The Gen 3 is out, which will be PCI 3.0 compatible with an IB - if that's of any interest to you?

3-5 weeks on Amazon, but I ordered from Dabs, got it in less than a week

Yeah saw that but couldn't be bothered waiting, might get a gen 3 as the photo on the amazon website shows the board with gold caps. Now I just need to find a cheap OEM Windows 7 Ultimate
