That is an unreasonable answer and I think you know that. People who have been posting for for a good period will have seen unreasonable behaviour by poster wearing the moderator tag which if it were indulged in by ordinary posters would be penalised.

Generally speaking I give longer bans to moderators than I do to other posters because moderators should know better.

If you don't report posts then they usually won't be spotted because all of the mods don't do this for a living so cannot give over huge amounts of time to read and analyse all the posts that go on in these fora.

I am really quite frightened by how many right wing Libertarians have been made mods on boards. I feel these mods are throwing their weight around in the board as there is always the subtext that a moderator is a better poster. Some of these people, as is sadly typical of boards mods, seem very unsuited to being mods at least from the mentalities they display here.

I would like to see this considered as an issue as I would like to see more balance. The politics forum as is isn't really conductive for discussion especially with posters like Permabear spending most of their "Baiting lefties". Left vs. right discussions can actually be worthwhile on somethings, but there are some people who make a joke out of it, and it's disproportionately on the right at the moment.

I'm sure it will be of comfort to you that most of the Politics mods are on the left side of the spectrum and of those on the right, none of them are remotely close to libertarians.

Actually, I think every Politics mod disagrees fundamentally with Libertarians and I can remember off-hand several instances where a Politics Mod was one of the key debaters on the anti side of a libertarian thread.

If anything I'd worry about Libertarians getting oppressed on here given that they don't have a voice at the mod table.

I can see the points Nesf and permabear are making and having been a mod briefly once on some site, i can appreciate it could be time comsuming and again each moderator is different and brings different viewpoints.

The question is, though - are you a libertarian according to other libertarians? Or a member of the Peoples' Front of Judea?

You misunderstood my post - I was talking about boards mods in general, as even outside of their forums, people can still see they're clearly mods. However the actual politics mods don't get involved that often and still allow the conversation to consistently be dominated by the RW Libertarians even when they sink to childish baiting.

It's true that boards posters have been less than impressed by the Occupy Dame Street protest, but I can't see that much is added to it by this sudden and I'm sure utterly unrelated bout of whinging.

The 20Cent guide to Libertarians: why was this thread closed?

As far as I can the Libertarians themselves have been making similarly awful posts - the 53% thread comes to mind, and some of them are just outright troublemakers as opposed to people who are merely getting tired of it.

This needs to stop. Moderation on the politics forums needs to get a clue.

What I do is laugh, chances are you won't be unfortunate enough to meet one of them in real life, Libertarians that is.

The Norris and McGuinness were just more popular and relevant microcosms of a good few topics on politics.

Norris attracted the more socially liberal vs. the socially conservative, hardcore elements, which doesn't happen that often, maybe Israel vs, Palestine threads are comparable and they often get locked.

McGuinness was the usual Republican type threads, they are everyday occurences, just more to the fore during the election.

Libertarianism/Tea Partyite types vs. Barrett/Higgins type Socialists, another battleground.

They all just go round and round and can't go on forever, they get locked and they find a new thread to thrash out the same arguments.

Sometimes you get a middle ground poster drifting in, they either get drowned out or lose the will to live pointing out the obvious repeatedly!

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

You don't have to post here. And given your entire contribution to the forum seems to consist of complaining about everything, perhaps a mutual parting of the ways is in order?

the thread was locked because politics is not a blog nor is it R&R. you want to engage in an actual 2-way discussion about the merits of Lib go right ahead.

Throwing it back to me is a poor excuse for poor moderation. Again, the only alternatives I can think of is politics.ie - which is a shameful site run by a shameful man who's concept of "free speech" applies more to homophobes than it does those who disagree with him.

Then perhaps you should start your own discussion forum and run it the way you want.

Unfortunately, CrystalLettuce, represents quite a lot of the posters here (especially in politics) where they make their point as if it's sacrosanct.
Other posters who disagree with evidence or logic seem are completely ignored and they go after the people who reply with "opinion" posts that they can latch on to.

Facts: always brushed over and ignored.

Case in point - the claim is that moderators and libertarians are treated more fairly in politics and don't get warnings/infractions; I point out that anyone only has to look at my infraction history and both of those are proven to be false... ignored 100%.

It makes it very difficult to take these types of posters seriously IMO. It was wrecking my head in the Norris, 29th amendment and 30th amendment threads where questions had been asked and answered and points had been made and refuted or (for the most part) put to bed and posters were still dragging them up.

We do exercise a particular leniency in respect of that kind of thing when it comes to elections and referendums. We only really step in where people are repeating errors of fact (either innocently or mendaciously).

Who or what are "countries such as Ireland"?

Are you trying to intimate that countries where theres a right of centre national consensus are free of 'vitrolic abusive tirades'?
