Why are so many threads being locked on the Political cafe section ?
It is supposed to be an informal even humerous section away from the main sections ? If people want to rant, let them do so !
Last night there were so many locked it looked like a joke ! Are some mods jsut being ' trigger happy' ?

At least partly, it seems, because some posters don't seem to notice where they are when starting threads, or whether there are duplicate threads elsewhere.

Why did hellsangel get carded for posting a picture of MMG with a luger? Would someone also get carded for posting the picture of Willie O Dea with the gun? Or Peter Robinson posing with the AK47 etc etc?

It said "inappropriate image" how was it inappropriate?

I can only assume that BS thought MMG was shooting someone whereas WO'D and PR were just frolicking about with the weapons. Strange one though as it just looks like BS.

That must be it, he isn't shooting anyone he is just pointing it

    No takers on the above?

I have a suggestion for the elections forum. I think it would a great idea to be able to put prefixes on the threads, like "Presidential Election" "Local election" "Assembly elections" that type of thing.

We already have prefixes on that forum for the different constituencies. Do you think it's required for other elections as well?

I was waiting to see how things panned out there before bringing that up tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Wolfe Tone

I think so yeah, if all elections are going to be shunted in there extra prefixes or replacement ones would be good imo.

Bearing in mind after this election for president, we won't be having another presidential one for quite some time, is a presidential prefix really required.

The next one up will be the locals, we'll have to work something out for with regards to prefixes for the one.

Other than that, the US Presidential elections will be covered in the US Politics forum tbh, that would make most sense I'd think.

Yes, I am posing this question as someone who recently went off in a sulk for several weeks, and am likely to repeat it, but is there any way to spare the Irish Economy forum the "depth and breath" of discussion that AH might afford discussions on the Irish economy when "depth and breadth" can be interpreted as "suitable for the "conspiracy theories forum""?

Can we consign the lazy persons label response "west Brit" to the dustbin please. I am getting sick and tired of a certain group of posters using it to avoid any sort of intelligent discussion.

I dunno. It's a fairly convenient way of identifying posters who inhabit a parallel universe, and as such can be conveniently ignored.

Provided that any reference to celtic jerseys follows it, I wouldn't lodge an objection.

Mods; just a suggestion, but my head is melted with the number of Norris and McGuinness threads. Could we have a one candidate, one thread policy?

Could I get thanks if people support this idea (closet thanks whore that I am)

Failing that I'll just start the "MMG shops at TK Maxx shocker!" thread.

I'm sure Asda like the publicity too :D

Could end up with a lot of cross talk.

True - but we are juggling 4 - 8 threads per candidate.

I am really quite frightened by how many right wing Libertarians have been made mods on boards. I feel these mods are throwing their weight around in the board as there is always the subtext that a moderator is a better poster. Some of these people, as is sadly typical of boards mods, seem very unsuited to being mods at least from the mentalities they display here.

I would like to see this considered as an issue as I would like to see more balance. The politics forum as is isn't really conductive for discussion especially with posters like Permabear spending most of their "Baiting lefties". Left vs. right discussions can actually be worthwhile on somethings, but there are some people who make a joke out of it, and it's disproportionately on the right at the moment.

As a libertarian, I am against the regulation of who gets picked as a mod.

i think the point was: criticism is okay, calling them all dirty hippies is not.

there was no need for the "If you want that, you'll find a nice encampment outside the Central Bank".
the Occupy Wall Street or Occupy Dame Street protesters are not an "echo chamber of like-minded left-wing opinion" and this was mentioned several times and yet this labelling still continues ...

i can't comment on that presently.

but i think the point being made is that (some posters feel that) mods (regardless of which forum) posts are being treated differently in comparisons to regular posters in this forum.

i'm just trying to clarify his point and if i'm wrong in my understanding of his point, i apologise.

I am inclined to agree with you though rather than it being left wing or right wing I think it it a question of immaturity and a willingness to bully those with whom some moderators disagree which is expressed through snide remarks and the use of warning cards.
The closure of the two main Norris threads in the run up to the lection seems to quite a bizarre action which seemed to me to be an example of political bias being operated. Perhaps I am wrong .
The frequent closure of threads by some moderators for no other reasons than individual moderators feel like it is puzzling. Boards.ie is a private venture so they may develop it as they wish but as far as the politics section is concerned, people seems to just drifting away.

That is an unreasonable answer and I think you know that. People who have been posting for for a good period will have seen unreasonable behaviour by poster wearing the moderator tag which if it were indulged in by ordinary posters would be penalised. I have made this point myself on a number of a threads and the response has been report the posters. Well I normally dont repoirt posts - it is up to moderators to moderate and to be honest i dont have that much faith in many of pols moderators so why bother ?These incidents could have happened at any point and on a variety of threads. To ask the poster to now ' give examples is jsut not accepting the point the poster made.

me personally ... not sure if i could/should as it could/would be seen as question a mod's decision or back seat modding ...

i think you'll have to ask CrystalLettuce ... i was just trying to clarify what i thought s/he meant ...

for examples, i'm not sure which thread they should be posted into and maybe this is the issue for CrystalLettuce as well?
