Mandolin

Okay, so I play guitar already, and I was thinking on getting a mandolin.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me is it like playing guitar, because I'd rather not fork out €200 when I might aswell just pick up my guitar.

they are kinda similar i suppose. the mandolin is mainly used to play indivigual notes rather than chords. best thing to do though is go into town and play a few and see what u think cause the novelty can wear off with them so best not to throw money down the drain! i prefer playin guitar to mandolin but the mandolin is great crack at times!

I play one and it's not like guitar much, not in the way a guitarist could pick up a bass and knock out a tune with no problem.
It's tuned differently so your chord and scale shape knowledge doesn't transfer directly.
The neck and fret spacing are completely different so it feel at all similar.
You'll have a long, but enjoyable, road to get good at it.

i agree with the above entirely... i have a lovely mandolin and it is great fun to play... just pick up a chord book and a learners book and if you're competent on the guitar you'll be at the level you could join in with a trad session with ease!

but you will find that it'll be hard on the fingers at first!
