Detroit techno and the like...

Having discussed with ianuss in the track of the day thread, decided there was the need for yet another youtube thread...

The 'and the like' bit allows for the European side of Detroit techno, so the stuff that crossed over or was being done around the same time, fair to say there was probably a similar sound evolving anyway around that time from both sides of the Atlantic. As per some other genre threads, I suggest sticking with no more than 3 tracks per post.

This guy has some great stuff, actually from the UK but obviously very influenced by Carl Craig and Detroit techno in general. His album 'Desert Scores' from 1996 is great.

Don't know though if I'm going a little too upbeat here though ianuss and with some of the previous ones too?! Anyways... a thread of this ilk was still needed :pac:

I recognise the name Arne Weinberg but I've never listened to any of his stuff before. I love the second and third tracks there and that Reload stuff is right up my street.

Africa Hi-Tech were playing the night of Shed recently, I went up a few times but never really stayed for too long at all. They were banging some really fast D'n'B style stuff and the atmosphere in the stage was pants. Really odd crowd, just huddled in groups. No buzz or atmosphere in the room.

I find the UR stuff I've heard to be a bit hit and miss. Some stuff I really wouldn't be in to but then there's some other absolutely wicked tunes

Yeah I'd imagine Africa Hi-tech may not have been great, initially I really liked the album but went off it pretty quickly, there are some good moments though. Anything either Tom Middleton or Mark Pritchard did in the 90s was pretty great, especially as Reload, this album is a must...

Yeah UR are great and deserve all the praise they get but there are some moments alright that don't do anything for me, but equally they have some fcking stunning releases, whether together or as various individuals. I love 'Astral Apache'

You should definitely spend time also browsing the B12 label, they reissued everything (on CD only unfortunately) as a six part series a couple of years back. They did also reissue actually a few of the older 12"s too plus some new releases - they seem to have since disappeared again, nothing since 2009.
