Irish people grew up on the Simpsons.

    I'm living in the US and one of the things that struck me was how little the simpsons had an impact here compared to back home.

    Every evening at 6 you'd check the channel 4 simpsons and the rte one and see if it was new or a repeat you prefered. That was every day at 6, you'd get a dose for years and years.

    Now we all know the latest episodes are sh*te, but it is charming to me that we can all relate and ryhme off quotes easily while the Americans I live with haven't a clue what I'm on about if I use a simpsons quote.

    So in conclusion;

    eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding eat the pudding.....

    Californians due to their nicer climate may have the option of going outside in the evenings.

    When I and most "youngish" people grew up there was 2/4 or maybe 6 channels if you were lucky. So we watched repeats again and again, and learned all the catchphrases.
    Most Americans of a similar age had much more choice and wouldn't watch a repeat if they seen it before.

    Answer 2. Americans are stupid.

    Marge, don't discourage the boy! Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals! Except the weasel.

    Ha I told my American girlfriend that two Irish people my age could have a whole conversation in Simpsons quotes. She didn't believe me 'til one time she was in Chicago airport and these two Irish lads had an hour long conversation consisting mainly of Homerisms.

    Thats just weird, I don't think I know anyone that doesn't like The Simpsons, I don't watch it now but I still have a great affection for it. That magical hour of The Simpsons and Home and Away are as Irish as Bacon and Cabbage. An American Cartoon and an Australian Soap, it shouldn't work but it just does.

    the channel 4 simpsons and the rte one

    I think you'll find it was and still is rte two, my friend. And if you're rich enough then you'd get the double whack on sky one from 7-8.

    So very, very true. Most of the time I stuck with RTE2.
