.. Does anyone know if I can use a PS3 with an old analogue TV. I haven't got one but was thinking of getting one & hooking it up to an old TV with a scart socket.

Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Be wary of some some games not being made with SD in mind or such as text heavy ones, i tried to play fallout 3 once on an SD tv and could not read any of the text.

I originally bought my ps3 and connected it up to a 28" analogue TV. 2 weeks later I was playing away on a 42" Sony 1080p Bravia. Still paying it off.

It works fine, but you wont be gettin anywhere near the most out of it!

IMO there a disaster to play on. It takes alot from the game and any text will be unreadable.

If you are playing with the pack in yellow white and red cables you'll have problems with text. Those cables give disgraceful picture quality. Get a proper Scart RGB cable for the PS3 and you'll get a massive increase in visual quality, not far off some HD games since a lot of games play in near SD resolutions like the COD games. Text should be perfectly readable with RGB scart. Composite cables are just terrible.
