I'm talking sense!!! In your deluded world Carroll is one of the greatest players who ever lived. Wake up Knoxy... Carroll is a half-decent striker, he will never NEVER be a great player.

I'd say you were one of those fans that was saying we have to give Stan more time even after getting trounced 5-2 by Cyprus.

The bloke is only 22 and has shown great potential in a few games so far, its going take a season or two before we can make a real judgement on him.

He's gonna score now isn't he?:(

That's a silly post. Unless you couldn't give a flying f..k about your club, the waste of funds that could be used to buy world class talent should annoy you.

I love the way certain Liverpool fans think that Andy Carroll's gonna transform caterpillar like into Alan Shearer. He's not. The guy is pound for pound the worst signing in the history of English football.

Why do you feel the need to tell everyone the same thing over and ****en over again.

    Huh?

I suppose the supporters of every single club in the world then bar maybe 10/12 should start rioting then?

Anyway, what John W. Henry/board/Kenny/Comolli want to do with Liverpool FC's money i none of my business, and is of no interest to me, as long as they are collectively doing what they think is the right thing to move the club as a whole forward.

Who cares if he's only 22?

How many players go from not setting the world on fire to being one of the greatest players on the planet in the space of a few years?

At £35 million, unless he ends up being one of the greatest English players of all time, he'll be an abject failure.

So if the day United got £80 million for Ronaldo they'd gone out and signed Kevin Davies, I should just sit back and hope for the best?

You're obviously another head in the sand/all's well with the world merchant.

    Good luck with that.

He will be judged on the amount of goals he scores, so im going wait and see before i pass my judgement.

I thought what happened was that there was a mini transitional phase, not a lot of money was spent straight away, United fans went mental, then the season after United were league champions and in the European Cup final.

You know, Ferguson was with doing the making of the doing whats good and not bad but good for the club.

No, because whether Carroll scores the winner tomorrow (for either Liverpool or United) is irrelevant...he still won't be at the level a £35 million player should be.

Veron was a world class player. He just didn't fit in at United (probably because he needed to be played in Keane's position rather than here there and everywhere but primarily on the right wing).

Veron cost £28,000,000 and was a complete flop.

    End of story.

He was a flop at united for sure but there's no doubt he was world class and his price tag didn't seem ludicrous at the time.

Yes but he was a complete waste of money. Liverpool will get more value out of Carroll, than United got out of Veron.

Too early to say that with any certainty.
He could just as easily turn out to be a bigger flop.

And they recouped 16 million of that by selling him to Chelski.Liverpool will do well to recoup 20 odd million should Carroll move on barring he becomes a goal scoring machine which I really dont think he will.

Raging Im missing the game, working all day tomorrow but I shall be tuned into this thread for the inevitable melt downs, trolling and general shíts and giggles that goes hand in hand with United vs Liverpool.

Im more confident of a United victory than Ive been in a long long time going in against the Pool.Dunno what it is but I think the young(er) lads and new additions will be immense tomorrow.

    G'wan United.

    Diego Forlan springs to mind

Some amazing fortune tellers in this thread.

The reason Downing, Enrique and Bellamy were signed was to provide width and crosses for Carroll, last couple of games have shown the potential that they bring. That's why saying Downing wasn't a priority ahead of a CB isn't true. Of the team that started the first game of the season, 7 of them had 30 odd appearances in a Liverpool jersey. These things take time and it's only October yet!

Am never that confident, they can beat us just like we can beat them, there is always the air of failure when playing them.

Carroll is not a world class player and most people I know (both Liverpool fans and non Liverpool fans) were aghast when Liverpool paid £35 million for him.

Stop citing Veron in discussions about Andy Carroll...you're embarrassing yourself.

A good example, although Forlan was only signed for around £6.5 million and he was doing very well in Spain prior to WC 2010.

I don't think he's comparable with Carroll either...Forlan looked the part...he just didn't score enough goals. Carroll in my view looks a poor player and he cost multiples of what Forlan cost.

A sad indictment of Liverpool. They're reduced to signing guys to ping crosses on to the head of a Tony Cascarino like centre forward they bizarrely paid £35 million for. What's next - Signing Rory Delap to add long throws to their armoury?

I'm seriously bullish about tomorrow's game. I actually expect United to humiliate Liverpool in front of their own fans. This result has been coming for a while. There's a gulf in class between these two sides and tomorrow it will reveal itself fully. One side is targetting Barcelona at the top of football's tree. The other is desperately trying to obtain European football of any kind.

United to win by at least two clear goals. Rooney to destroy Jamie Carragher. Carroll to be utterly anonymous.

I must say I'm nervous about tomorrows game. Who wouldn't be. United vs. Liverpool, always a chance it can go any way, anyone who thinks otherwise is being foolish.

Would be a lot happier if Cleverely was playing, but I'm hoping Anderson with his international break can step it up, and Fletcher with more games behind him can also.

United haven't been playing well lately and away from home we are still very dodge, our defence is very unstable.

All I can rely on is that our front four are devastingly better than Liverpool's defense, so I'm hopeful that Rooney can put in one of his screw you Liverpool performances that he loves so much.

There's no bait here dude...I'm no troll.

My views aren't "the Earth is flat" stuff...they're reasoned and thought out contentions. To be honest, how anyone can believe that Andy Carroll's anything other than a terrible signing is beyond me. It's like paying £40 million for Kevin Doyle.

In my view anyone defending Andy Carroll should be investigated for trolling.

Suarez brings the unpredictability and Kuyt, who'd have thought it? can play a bit, Downing can bring a different option too, intelligent player. It's early days yet, I've patience, you don't with De Gea.

Anyway, you're on a roll lad now and never change, great laugh.

Tbh, I amn't as confident as previous Anfield encounters.

Smalling and Evra as FB's are suspect but so are our CB's. Lucas will do the simple things well and it'll probably come down to a refereeing mistake or a bit of luck. I'd love Bellamy to start along with Suarez to exploit that.

    I'd take a draw.

It'll be an interesting match. If Suarez and Rooney both play well, then we're in for a treat. I'd say united will win 3-1. Rooney with 2 and Nani with 1.

    Suarez for Liverpool

Why are you banging on about Carroll, whose Liverpool career is only starting and cannot be judged yet, whilst Veron's Utd career is over and can easily be judged as total and utter flop.

Sold on to Chelsea for £15m after 2 seasons.

It's also listed by The Times amongst the The 50 Worst Premiership Transfers ever. Go look that up.
