This may have been mentioned already, but when using the AA guns in Caspian Border,
the only way you can score points is by shooting an aircraft out of the sky.

If the aircraft hits the ground even though you did 90% of the damage, you don't seem to be rewarded with any points.

However i haven't kept my eye on the points text, the only notification is for 100 points when you take one out while its still airborne.

If this is so, there should be another notification for taking an aircraft down.

So how is everyone filling their time now that the BETA is over ?

Is it definitely over in Europe now?
Managed to squeeze 10 mins in before work this morning

But SOOOOOOO very satisfying when you kill a boss or finish an area.

Between that, some more Gears 3 MP and Guardian Heroes on Wednesday :D , I think I have enough to keep me going till the 28th.

I would've thought that a PS3 would give a decent set up a run for its money.

...... I would've thought that a reasonably high spec machine would be on par with a PS3? Or have they 'dumbed down' the PS3 version?

Maybe around 2006 or 2007 at best. I was playing oblivion on a 6800GS back in 06. On medium/high it looked better than the PS3 version. And when that came out on PS3 a lot of people considered it to be the best looking game on the PS3.

    A 6800GS was a medium range card in 2006....

    Ah, dang.

Aghh. :( So, would this MBP (+8GB DDR3 ram) run it better?

miles better, though do you have that already? Cause if not buying a mac book for gaming is a bit nuts - price wise and everything. You could get a better spec PC for half the price.

Just for fun. The entire PS3 has a performance of about 200 GFLOPs, in single precision.
A single mid range GTX 560 card is running at about 1000 GFLOPs (1TFLOP) with a high end card hitting over 2 TFLOPs. There is an order of magnitude in terms of raw computing power.

The problem is that most PC games are heavily reliant on APIs like Direct X which are high level tools and easy to code but not as optimised as the low level approach to developing on consoles like the PS3. The drawback is that the PS3 can be horrendous to code for when you're used to high level work so we've some abysmal performances compared to the 360. But it has also done quite well in the right hands.

In terms of BF3 it's simply isn't powerful enough to match the lowest spec PCs.

They often call it 'coding direct to metal' or something similar when you can create processor specific code rather than using a catch-it-all solution of using an API.

One major drawback PC's have is the VAST array of hardware they use, even when just talking GPU's.

This is sort of how PS3 / X360 can actually look VERY decent compared to high end PC hardware - they are being coded directly to the metal. No silly API's to work around (well, of course there are API's, but they are designed to convert that code directly for the hardware beneath).

    Its much more efficient.

PC's just have the brute force to make up for the inneficiency.

I bought rage on my lunch break and have spent 3 hours since I got home trying to get the game to launch. This is the type of shit that puts people off PC gaming.

I haven't played a different game from Bad Company 2 since November 2010 (excluding BF3 Beta)... what the hell am I going to do?

I played BC2 last night but it is like getting into your old car after driving a new shiny new car... didn't car if it got dumped and bruised cos I will be scrapping it in two weeks anyway (at least for a year or so I expect)

Was thinking MW2 as I can get a loan of it for 2 weeks or so but I hate the look of the game as it is better suited for my 7 year old.

I don't play single player either so I am lost for a game... is Socom good?

It's still buggy.... was playing it last night. Made me depressed how little its progressed since I played it last.

I got RAGE its not great TBH...if you really want to bridge the gap I recommend OMSI Bus Simulator :eek:

    Got very good reviews.....PMSL

Metro 2033 is a great game...monster to run but I cleared it back when I had the trusty ATi 5990. Well worth the money if cheap on steam....but you better have a meaty PC.

Just changed my preorder from Amazon to Gamestop. Get even more DLC that way and saving a few bucks in the process.
