Microsoft SysInternals has loads of useful tools but they're geared for techies, not your average Joe.

Process Monitor is probaby a good place to start, it'll show all currently running processes and what they're doing. You can filter to show disk read/writes.

TreeSize Free or WinDirStat will give you a breakdown of what is using up your space
