As long as it's only the scalers and nothing to do with your poly sniffing. That's just too creepy for me to be around :pac:

Received today some lovely GBA games. One of which I've been after for 752 years (to the day). Astro Boy and Darius R (both NTSC-J).

Both are CIB and super condition. Not a crease on them, especially the gorgeous Darius R box art. :)

Cheers, I didn't know Astro Boy was made by Treasure. However I saw a video of it a while ago and saw it had SHMUP stages to the game.

    Treasure + SHMUP + NTSC-J Goodness = No brainer.

As for Darius R, I know it's not the greatest title in the long-running series, but I absolutely adore the box art and had to put that one in with my shooting games collection. :)

Correct me if I am wrong by the way, but is Darius R a GBA version of Darius Alpha? If not, is it a boss rush of Darius Gaiden? It's definitely a boss rush of one of the Darius games, I'm just having trouble remembering which one.

HG101 has this to say about the game:

    http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/darius/darius.htm
Darius hit the Gameboy Advance in 2001 in Japan (the "R" stands for "Revival"), but instead of being a whole new game, it's really just a half-port of the original Darius game. The graphics are mostly the same, having been smoothed over a bit, but approximately half of the levels have been plain cut from the game. The music has been changed to include songs from all throughout the Darius series, which is probably the best thing this title has going for it.

But the most frustrating thing is that this, being a pretty close port, fixes none of the problems of the original game. The designers of the later games obviously realized the flaws in the power-up system, and they slightly revised it by requiring less orbs to power-up, but it's still aggravating. Why did they keep this? For a "pure" gaming experience? What's more is that the game's proportions just feel out of whack on the Gameboy Advance screen - bosses are so large there's sometimes no room to maneuver, and dodging bullets with your gigantic craft is harder than it needs to be. This one really isn't worth it - hit up Gradius Galaxies or Iridion 2 if you want a decent GBA shooter.

Thanks Retr0gamer. That was doing my head in trying to remember which game it was a cut down version of.

Indeed, it's not the best game but a nice collector piece all the same I think. :)

So got Kula Quest for a little over €15 posted and also (I know it's sacreligious) but also bought a US copy King of Fighters R-2 for the NGPC. I know I was going for Jap only but for €4 posted. €4!

    Loads more available too

Can't say no at that price! Well done! I'm trying for NTSC-J only across the board but for some games it's difficult to say no at a vastly cheaper price.

In some cases 'Buy Now, Buy NTSC-J Later™'. :)

If I posted everything I think some people would come around and beat me to death for being a "look what I got, again" dude, and rightfully so

Why? Post it all so we can see! That's what this thread is for.

....besides, I want to see what 20 CPS2 games stacked up looks like. Oh, and take a photo of the look on your birds boat race at the moment she sees them in the house! :D
Now I must go and clean my top hat and monocle as I need to prepare a display case for some vintage cameras I have coming tomorrow (something new I'm starting to collect).

Don't suppose any of those are lomographic? I collect those and always put one in my DSLR bag when I'm taking snaps. Fun. :)

You should test the jaguar CD. They don't just go wrong, they go spectacularly wrong and ruin themselves because they are so badly made. If it works then you are very lucky!

Hi Retr0gramer...Tested the CD before buying........All worked...Tested again last night had a quick blast with Blue Lighting...and then used an audio cd...Both worked No issues....;)

Yeah the Jag Cd is one of the most problematic consoles ever. Even the door lid crushes the cd so it cant spin! GO ATARI!

    Like what?
The only thing worth owning on the Jag is Tempest 2000, AvP plus absolute cack, as Retr0 can attest after playing it on my Jag at the last beers. I believe it even outpaces Streets of Rage as the most consistently overrated game ever.

AvP... I'm not sure I'd even say it was a good attempt at a wolfenstein clone :(

    Snapped this up off adverts...

    http://www.adverts.ie/other-consoles-games/neogeo-pocket/1004846

Literally as good as new, box perfect, all the manuals etc. Finally joined the NGPC club and my patience in waiting for a boxed one for a good price paid off! Now someone recommend me some must-have games that wont break the bank!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,942 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Excellent purchase. Most of the NGPC games are very cheap especially if you just get the cart and plastic case. Neo Turf Masters, Sonic, Metal Slug 1&2, Pac-Man, Puzzle Bobble Mini lots of great games for it.

    Decent bundle there.

I'd also recommend Last Blade, Gals Fighters, Metal Slug 2, Puyo Puyo, Faselei!, Neo Turf Masters, Puzzle Bobble and Biomotor Unitron.

I think may have a new favourite hand-held and it's not even a console. I'm due a new phone upgrade on my contract but saw someone on adverts that wanted to swap his Xperia Play for a Desire HD. Wasn't sure about the phone but I'm due an upgrade so if I didn't like it, I'll be getting a new phone regardless.

It's amazing. Have SNES, CPS2, GBA and Megadrive emulators running on it, all at - what seems to me at least - full speed and it's amazing. I'm playing through Terranigma right now for the fifth or sixth time, Seiken Densetsu 3 is next then Mother 3. The controls are just so perfectly set up for emulation, I honestly think that in years to come people will be collecting these for retro gaming and ignoring the phone aspect.

    got one of these today
after some faffing about I've been playing legacy of kain, starflight super r-type all full speed with full controls...tis awesome
