I'd say it's the former, as in 6 months from install date ;)

Betya you can wipe and reinstall come March 2012 and get another 6 months out of it...

LOL, launch date was 14/9 and expiration 12/3. The difference is exactly 180 days, just like I expected :D

I just can't seen to get this to install on to my laptop, I tried with my DVD boot disk and it gets so far them it says it can't recognise a driver for my CD/DVD scan computer to find it. Then I tried installing it via USB and I get the same message, can't find driver.

I then tried using virtual box and it loads to the start up screen and then after a while it's telling me to reboot my computer

Guess I'll just have to try my desktop.

It took me two days to figure out the above problem. It turns out you have to enable the hardware virtualization option in the laptops BIOS. Boot into your laptops BIOS and check for a hardware virtualization option.

I dont think thats the problem for me because i had xp running no problems up until 6 months ago then i got rid of it.

But XP is much simpler to emulate than Windows 8. ;)

Some laptops have processors which don't support hardware virtualisation. Some others do, but the BIOS forcefully disables it and provides no way to enable it.

My laptop doesn't have HV thought it did cause i was able to run xp. My desktop does have it but it still won't run on it.

I ended up having another go with the dvd last night it worked (wished it didnt now). Went through most of the install steps then realised it never asked me were to install it. I installed it over my win7:( i thought i could reverse it going through the system restore. Eh... no:mad: cause all the restore point were deleted in the install process. Is it just a case of putting in the win7 dvd and installing over this or will i have to delete the whole lot?

you should have a folder on C:, hopefully, called Windows.old, check that before you go doing anything else, sounds like you just did an in place upgrade rather than a full custom install.

Thanks, that was the problem for the virtualbox install, installed fine after that. Must say I'm not overly impressed with it so far and usually I look forward to new versions plus it doesn't recognise my network card for wireless or ethernet:(

    Time will tell.

You really shouldn't point the finger to the OS when entering problems if your install is virtual. Chances are the problem is with the virtualisation!!!

I kid you not, I had W8 running on an Acer netbook with a tiny 8GB SSD
