I think it's just the accent.

"I ate 'im. I've always 'ated 'im."

No, he talks about drinking blood so his sons blood will be in his bloodstream and now that his son is dead, he is still inside him

    The OP is correct

I've tried two minutes and I can barely understand what he's saying

And what is he calling the policeman? Some quaint made up word, I can't make it out

If I didn't know his background I'd have assumed he's blind drunk and mumbling

Grab the little circle on the timeline and drag it until it gets to 10mins, you don't have to watch the whole thing...

I was watching the Late Late Show last Friday and saw a Traveller, Paddy Doherty, being interviewed.

It was quite a good interview, and when telling the emotional story of the death of his son, he describes how he 'ate' part of him.

Look at this link from 10mins on...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XmMAnkD9HE

I can kind of understand the logic of it and in some respect admire his honesty and his sense of unashamed love towards his son.

But there seems to be something very animalistic about it, almost uncivilised.

    What do you think?

Nice bit of publicity for a 'media career'.

Most travellers are quite religious so I guess in his eyes it was no worse than the thousands of people who eat the body of Christ every Sunday morning. Nothing beats a good meal from home tbh.

I read somewhere before that eating the brain and heart of a relative many thousands of years ago was a common practice.

The reason behind it is exactly how Paddy described it - you take into yourself a part of a loved one to allow them to live on. You comsume the brain for its wisdom and the heart for its love.

Although it may sound disgusting to many people, I find it a highly personal and emotional thing to do.

isnt it illegal to do so ? consume human flesh, willingly?

I just hope that the people discussing the guy, and the act itself, have at least watched the video to understand the exact context of what moved him to do what he did. Dahmer ate his victims flesh to maintain a connection with him, or keep them with him, and while I think this comparison shouldn't be made, if people just follow this thread and see words that stand out like 'cannibalism,' 'ritual,' 'ate his son's flesh,' I fear they might inadvertantly get a warped view of what he did.

He was a man that was quite literally told his eldest son was killed, and as such, was hit by a wall of emotion. I don't want to understand that agony yet. No parent should have to bury their child.

    Interesting guy anyway.

I don't think so. Don't some people eat the placenta after the birth of a child? It's rumored to be good for preventing post natal depression.

Watched the Danny Dyer thing ages ago, his appearance on Gypsy Wedding & also all of CBB too....to me he seems very chameleon like, playing up to whatever he needs to be for each of the shows, whilst still at the back of it all he wouldn't hesitate to take the eye out of your head if he saw fit.

I do like him & find him great entertainment to watch & listen to but when it all boils down to it & I may speaking personally here but Ive yet to meet a traveller that wouldnt do ya over if they could benefit themselves somehow & I think thats exactly what he's like....ya see him driving his big car & throwing cash about on some of the other shows, he may have made a nice few pound fighting but I dont believe for a second there's not something very dodgy underneath the surface keepin him afloat

He was attacked by a cousin of his twice there about a year ago & said in court that his hard man behaviour on the Danny Dyer thing was all an act, playing upto the cameras for the show itself but I think thats probably the most honest account we've seen of his life so far.

The youtube video earlier in the thread of himself as a young man shows him for what he is really & what he was reared to be.
You can blabber on about it being part of their culture or whatever you way want to spin it but at the end of the day its barbaric & scummy behaviour.

There was a bit in CBB towards the end where himself & Bobby were talking on the sun loungers & it got a bit heated at Paddys end even though Bobby was just trying to converse with'em, Paddy sitting up & gettin ready to square up going "who's ****ing mumbling...Im not mumbling"....ya could see the wild traveller coming out in him there & I think had there been anyone in the house to rise him we'd have seen alot more of it.
Also the "im gonna throw him & his ****ed up brother through the screen" line after the cinema treat in CBB springs to mind
