    Howdy folks,

My girlfriend just got her bag stolen about an hour ago with her phone in it. Ironically enough I was going to install lookout on her desire tonight, sods law I suppose.

Anywho, the phone is still on and ringing out. Does anyone know of an app I can install remotely from the market that will run and email a location to us? Hell of a long shot I know, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Send text 'GPS my Droid'.

Sorry, just testing it and says GPS must be enabled... :(

Aye, have managed to install it remotely, but its unlikely she would have had the gps on :(

Never mind, at least I can now make the thing ring loudly until they turn it off!

The phone is still ringing out, and I'm spamming it with wheres my droid texts. Will give it another hour or so before we cancel the sim.

Tried another couple of apps, both need registration before use. :(

Good luck, I hope you get the bag and its contents back.

Just tried the gps message again and it came back with a network location! Only accurate to 800 meters though :( thanks for all the help kenny. Still holding a wee bit of hope that the bag was lifted by mistake. Will let you know if we get anything back.

We are thinking now that the bag may have been lifted by mistake. There was a couple of old biddies sitting next to her with a load of shopping, so fingers crossed. But if we cant get anyone to answer the phone I'll be onto the garda that took the statement in the morning. Would be interesting to see if I can get the address, google street view and anything else before then.

I'll admit, I'm fairly surprised at how easy this has been track. Only thanks to you guys though!

Hit a snag :( Since the last time I tracked the phone, it's either been switched off or has no signal. I'm thinking out of signal judging from where it was last. (Ok, maybe hoping!) Will keep you updated.

    Best of luck with it

Just an update to say, there is no update! :( Phone is still off and I'm still waiting on the Garda getting back in touch with me.

I did make a nice tracking map for them though :)

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=209852786052760970494.0004acf8acdc803bb6e89

Starting to think that we won't see the bag or phone again, such is life :( Although, do you think it may be worthwhile getting a number for a local Garda station at the last location and giving them a call? As it seems they got off the train there and then were either on a bus or in a car heading south at 38mph. (Yep, still holding on to that hope that it was lifted by accident and there are decent people in the world....)

That's gas, matches up with the IE timetable.

I'd give Ray D'Arcy a shout with this in the morning. :D

That's bleeding deadly the way it comes up deadly on the map.
Hopefully it was only a mistake and the ould biddy returns it.
I presume you sent a text with contact details to return phone ?

Aye. Phoned the local garda station closest to the last hit we got (which was 200 yards up the road) and left details there in case it gets handed in.

I take it you never had any luck getting this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭ferrigan101

Unfortunately not. Waiting for the insurance to pay out for everything that was in the bag. The apps worked a treat though, very handy if you don't have a tracker on your phone.

I bought my Galaxy S II last june but it was stolen about 3 weeks ago. I keep forgetting to post you guys to see if theres anything I can do. The think is I bought the iphone 4s when it first came out so the number I had in my samsung tranferred over to 4s, so the Galaxy didn't have any phone number. Can it still b tracked? I read the link above and still have no idea

Just looking through the apps I used to track the phone and I don't think you can without having the number attached to it. You can use https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid

to email the tracking word but I'm not sure it would work. http://wheresmydroid.com/instructions_email.html

Worth a shot though. Of course, this would only work if they haven't wiped the phone, your google account is still synced to it and it is connected to wifi and can receive emails.

    Best of luck!
