Will the zombie craze ever die out?

Or will it keep on shufflin' ever onward?

Since the millennium there's been a huge revival of zombie films, with remakes galore, and a zombie "culture" has arisen with various events, books, etc. So is this a permanent revival (no pun intended) or will the boom die out?

I very much doubt it. Same happened to vampires, very popular a while ago. Zombies are in games, films, books, mini-TV series - it's a matter of time when people get fed up with them.

    i hope not.

Sure, the zombie craze will die out eventually, but I bet it'll come back to life in search of brains.

There was never really a zombie craze. While most people were off focusing on blonde chicks shagging vampires, zombie movies were still being made. It's been a constant.

Not to get pedantic, but the majority of films classed as zombie movies aren't exactly that. They're "Infected" which is a different thing altogether.

The virus/infection element added to modern zombie films is to give them some scientific credibility and plausibility. We're neck deep in the era of science now and presenting zombies, or zombie like creatures, as an actual possibility makes the film more believable and maybe scarier. I personally like the revival of zombies and the added psuedo-science that goes with it.

I agree with Notorious about the games. While new maps keep comin out, it'll stick. Those games are awesome

Nah can't see it happening, with it being 43 years from when the first Zombie movie Night of the Living Dead was released there are now more movies, games books, roleplay games, card games and dice games then ever before. It's an established genre which just won't die :D

In recessions Horror movies gain in popularity. Make of that what you will.

In the kama sutra it's called the "preying mantis".

I really like the zombie lore. The originals though the likes of George A Romero and Lucio Fulci's Zombi (very cheesy but highly enjoyable).

I think Vampires have forever been ruined with the likes of Twishyte. And I steer clear of all the bastardised versions of classics with zombies.

Recessions mean higher heels and horror films. Strange

It will for a while - then return from the dead yet again (no pun intended).
All these things go through long term cycles sometimes.
It will get worn out - saturation point reached in public interest, will be given a rest, probably in years to come yet again, be revitalised in some new hopefully fresh format, yet again.

No, it never will. It could be because out of all the other Horror franchises like Werewolves and Vampires, Zombies are the most plausible and most likely to happen - perhaps not the Living Dead aspect, but the Infected aspect like in the 28 x Later franchise.

The idea of a rage virus etc is a lot easier to buy into alright, and apocalyptic scenes showing empty deserted cities capture the imagination because of how massively overcrowded the world is becoming. Werewolves and vampires are limited to the night/full moons so they don't seem to have the same potential to take over the world.

No as in D&D and World of Darkness and Deadlands http://www.peginc.com/.

And there are board games as well, http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/29368/last-night-on-earth-the-zombie-game

But if your into zombie kink, there are zombie dildos.

It also became important that Zombie films move beyound mere metaphors for consumerism.

It's also important to note that Zombie movies go back long before Romero but he came up with the ever popular format of the shuffling hordes.

I think the whole zombie thing as a mainstream entity depends a lot on the World War Z movie. If they do it right it will generate big cash and you'll see more and more major films about zombies.

It will always be around though...cuz zombies are cool and it's hard to ruin them by making films about teenage girls wanting to **** them.

Obviously it won't die out. 99% of those films have been pure and utter ****. I'd go as far as to say no good zombie film has been made in the last 10 - 20 years.

I hate fantasy zombies with super human powers I much prefer thinking about how real zombies would actually affect the world.
