There's one or two of those Hunky Dory girls I wouldn't mind drenching in real passion, if you know what I mean.*

    * = and by that I mean, I would fill them with my love jizz.

Much like a bri-nylon GAA jersey then?

I lift up the collar of my old Dubs jersey and it's says, "The Dubs". Loveably crap. Yeah there's something crap about that but it's got nothing to do with some snivelling capitalists who've never been to a game before and think a GAA ball can't be hand-balled and passed using the chest. Like....ffs...get you're very simple facts straight!

Disclaimer: I've had 4 pints of The Black Stuff TM with my brother tonight and I do tend to get a bit ranty.

    I actually don't give a sh1t.

Eve, substitute 'rugby' for 'GAA' in your post above (211) and that's exactly how I felt about the rugby ads. You expect that kind of thing from soccer, but somehow other sports seem above it and you don't want 'your' sport to be associated with it

It's nice to think our outraged chatter is helping some oleaginous, fat-tied advertising person pass off his five minutes of lazy work (product + tits) as useful.

Sex sells. Many ads have a sexist component. Bad publicity sells crisps.

I wish these crap ads weren't associated with my beloved GAA, to be honest. I don't find them offensive as such but I find them tacky and shoddy. GAA was always something simple and straight-forward for me. I've a photograph of last week's match of some little girls on the pitch waving the flag of their county. GAA is a family sport. I've been going with my family since I was 4 years old and my mother was passionate about the game (she died when I was 11). I'm from Dublin and I suppose as I only get a taste of how engrained GAA culture is elsewhere. These ads are inappropriate for a family audience and I don't see any association with the kind of buzz you find there. It seems like the company and the models don't understand that and are trying their best to trivialise and make a tacky farce out of something that means so much to young and old people around the country. Its an amateur sport and it's something that's genuinely enjoyed by it's fans purely for the love of the game. These ads do it no favours.

By the way, I'm not some howler and I'm not envious. Envy is definitely not what I feel. As man-fancying female, I inevitably don't see the artistic merit of these ads or the appeal to their female target market but I understand that's not what it's about...but why are they tainting the GAA? That's probably the only thing that truely bugs me....latch on to something with less impact on whole families, both young and old who'll see them. Don't cheapen something so drenched in real passion for the sport alone.

It's an ad for crisps not the GAA. Would you feel so strong if it was a load of men with no tops on? I think not.

Yeah she is smoking hot, but obviously not Irish though (same as Salpa). They put her name as Kelly Murphy on the website but her real name is Isabela Soncini and she is a model from Brazil.

Georgia Salpa IS Irish. Just because someone's father is not Irish does not make them foreign. Her mother is Irish, she was brought up in Ireland. Therefore, she is Irish.

Rubbish. People are immune to sex as advertising. The ad works because its funny.

Lets be honest here - the real reason this ad amuses some people and offends others is because it plays with people expectations. Rightly, or wrongly, people expect girls who play rugby or gaa for example to be...well....less than attractive (no offense meant to anyone here but that is the thing people expect). The advertisers are poking fun at that expectation by putting gorgeous women who you would never expect to play aggressive contact sports in the ad

That's why the ad works - its intent is to be humerous. Of course, thats also why the ad doesn't work - because by extension, its not saying it, but its implying that girls who do play these sports are, well, less than gorgeous. And thats why some people are offended.

Doesn't seem like an equal suggestion. Let's say it was an ad with a load of men wearing only teeny tight boxers and sporting a Beckham-esque c0ck while pulling seedy poses, with blatant sexual innuendo plastered all over the pics...I would still feel that's bad for 'my' sport, rugby
The ad works because its funny.
seriously what's funny? I don't mean this in an offended shrieking way - just really, where's the humour? I seem to be missing the joke
    Edit: oh wait -
people expect girls who play rugby or gaa for example to be...well....less than attractive
    really??? wtf? strange assumption

With a GAA tie-in. And don't make presumptions about me. Your presuming I'm jealous because I'm female? Off ye pop ffs...

Exactly. This is the equivalent. How would YOU feel if this is what they used to advertise crisps with a tie-in to your favourite sport? I've no DOUBT there'd be uproar from men.

As someone already said - there has been no real complaining on this thread at all from women, concerning these particular ads.

    It's all in your heads!

Well ok lets do a thought exercise.

What if they had used actual female women and/or GAA players in the ad ?

Would you all still have such a problem with it ? Would this ad be causing such a fuss if there were more ordinary looking women in it who actually played the sports? After all the girls would be making a bit of cash and empowering themselves. I tihnk people would be congratulating them for being so brave

What you mean like this :

Meh - doesn't bother me or most men really.

And I'll be perfectly honest with you here, I'm not offended and I genuinely dont give a crap. I expressed something that bugs me ever so slightly about the ads and it's implied I'm jealous. Men do the same and their opinions are debated and respected. Can you not see how bloody irritating that might be for female posters here? Everytime we make a comment, were labelled ugly, jealous munters by posters. I'm absolutely none of those things. I'm a decent looking female with no hang ups about my body. I just spent 3 weeks in Italy and I've a lovely tan and I look after myself and I'm also 31 years old and beyond the age of when I care about that kind of crap. Jealousy or being offended does NOT come into the equation for me. My comments were light-hearted up until the one about the GAA, which I wrote after a few beers and which I followed with a comment how it's not actually an issue for me.

I live in Spain and I see much "worse" on a daily basis. These ads are PG for me.

The ONLY thing that really truely annoys me is the attitude from some male posters here that accused us of being offended when there's almost no female posters on here claiming to be offended (but quite a number of male posters objecting to the ads) and everytime we express our opinion, which is JUST as valid as yours, were called jealous or some other ****e. It's NOT on and it runs the buzz in AH. You repeatedly do it time and time again with NO basis for your accusations. I'm here to have a laugh and some of you insist on bringing the vibe down with your issues.

Seriously, grow the feck up ffs.

It's really all about maintaining the status quo, I fear.

Now I'm confused. Why do you think e.g. I don't like the (rugby) ad?? The answer is because it threatens the family atmosphere and inclusive ethos that surrounds the game and that makes it so great. I'm used to sex selling products but I would prefer it not be associated with my sport because it doesn't really fit with the ethos. I don't care if they're male models, female models or actual players - it's not that they're pretty that I object to (bring that on!) - it's that the pictures are sleazy

That would be disgusting. Boobs are on show everyday of the week. cocks aren't.. Thank God

Exactly. So whats the problem ? I mean last year that ads were banned from complaints ??!!! Why ? Who complained ?

To be fair here - you are right must people actually complaining here are male - but they aren't engaging or explaining.

To be honest with you its the hipocrisy of the issue that bugs me. Its because the girls are stunning. I maintain if you had ordinary looking girls in the add it would be a non issue.

Or if they a girls gaa team did a nude calender for example noone would bat an eyelid - they would be congratulated for being brave. Because the girls in the ads are professional models they are seen as free targets for abuse

The moderators are trying to crack down on it, apparently. It makes it uncomfortable for female posters and it's not on. It's the only issue round here. Go back on this thread and you'll see most of the light-hearted comments are actually from women.
