and about time I say :)

    http://www.thejournal.ie/those-hunky-dorys-ads-are-back-and-so-are-the-complaints-2-218034-Sep2011/
HUNKY DORYS IS at it again.

The Meath-based crisp company has launched another advertising campaign featuring scantily-clad women playing sport.

Last year, the bikini-wearing girls were depicted playing rugby but this time around the models are having a go at Gaelic football.

The ‘Rugby’ campaign sparked controversy last year and was branded sexist by those who complained to Ireland’s advertising watchdog.

This morning, the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland confirmed that it has already received a small number of complaints about the ads, which started to appear in newspapers on Sunday.

“There have been just a handful of complaints this morning,” a spokeswoman for the ASAI told TheJournal.ie.

“No action has been decided upon yet,” she added.

One of the complaints referred to the Hunky Dorys’ website, which pits two girls’ teams – the Golds and the Emeralds – against each other.

The GAA said it was not consulted on the campaign and any queries should be directed to Largo Foods, which owns the Hunky Dorys brand.

Communications manager Alan Milton said the GAA had “no hand, act or part” in the advertisements.

The ads, which also appear in today’s papers, feature women in revealing tops with straplines such as “Still staring?” and “Bursting with Flavour”.

Last year, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) sent a solicitor’s letter to the crisp company because it called themselves “proud sponsors of Irish Rugby” in the ads.

This time around, the company claims to just be “proud supporters of Gaelic football.”

Largo Foods says its campaigns for Hunky Dorys are generally “edgier” than its competitors because the brand has a “great sense of humour”.

On its website, the company says its 2010 ‘Rugby’ campaign was a “massive success,” leading the brand to increase its worth to €1.5m.

    Well that's just embarassing.

They should be banned, they set very unrealistic expectations for young Irish men as to what to expect Irish GAA women to look like, leading to disappointment and depression :p

Ehh....seems to be the lads making a mountain out of a molehill here, not us  And it's up to you guys to complain about those ads as well if you feel offended otherwise quit your straw-manery.

Show more T&A... it's all good, I hate crisps in general but I'll "like" them if they advertise like this more...

Adverts such as this are like the Westboro Baptist Church. The more you complain, the more their campaign works.

Crap like the above is just a sample of the kind of BS which is ruining threads in after hours.

None of you post in this thread again or you will be banned.

Can't understand people saying it's a brilliant advertisement, because it's not. There's no brain power or thought behind it. It's just "brilliant" in the way it uses blatant sexuality to sell a product - Nothing new there.
The advertising industry really has become a one trick pony.

    Because they are incredibly skilful.

I got hit in the boobs one time and it really bloody hurt! This is like an ad for a man advertising hammers and getting whacked in the balls with one. Guaranteed women are looking at that thinking, "Ouchies".
