Is it not a bit awkward when you get into a massive pedantic argument with someone, and then, because it's polite to be polite, you have to smile pathetically at them at a boards beers?

That would be the main reason why I wouldn't go. I might feel a debt of friendship in the future, and objectivity is one of my main reasons for posting on boards.
