It seems that HP has been so overwhelmed by the demand for the Touchpad that it will now reverse its decision to cease production. It will restart again in October. Apparently it is back for sale on the HP (USA) site at full price. Maybe this was just a publicity stunt to market the product. HP has sold 350,00 touchpads this week.

I think this is quite lightly to happen! But I don't think they will sell for full price.

Wow, has it not occured to them that it has sold so well because of how much of a bargain it was? I'm delighted I got one at the firesale price, but I never would have even considered one full price. (to be fair, the more I use it, the more I can see how it would be worth that price, but I just wouldn't be willing to invest that kind of cash in a gadget at the moment)

theyd really need to find price point where theres enough demand for what they can supply. This price probably would be less than they can make it for. Unless there going to make money on apps or content or something, seems pointless

At full price you are talking Asus Transformer really and nothing else, aren't you. Great specs on the HP, but WebOS is a suicide note.

Agros aren't covering themselves in glory regarding stock. They must be giving stock on a first come bases regarding reservations, since people without texts where getting them before there due dates or perhaps argos staff deliberately kept them of the system in the hope of keeping them for themselves.

Anyway looking over this thread its clear to me that many people were stockpiling argos reservation codes for themselves(you know who you are) in numerous stores diminishing supply for everyone else.In the interest of fairness argos should have canceled reservations and sold them on a first come first served basis, limiting it to one per customer in the same way as Currys did, and letting the free market decide who wanted one the most in that the person who got up and queued the earliest get one. Instead of getting people with multiple codes getting one for their aunt, uncle, mother brother..etc or even worse still profiteers deciding who "really wanted it"

This is very interesting and probably explains this paragraph in the email Expansys sent out today:
Unfortunately, it is not only a matter of locating available stock, but also securing it at a cost that allows us to offer it as close as possible to the new lower prices everyone wants.

Those of us with pre-orders better watch carefully that we don't get stuck for the full price if Expansys get more stock in.

The free market isn't really concerned about how long you have to queue for, it's concerned about $ and only $.

A friend of mine had 2 reservations, for himself and his wife. The manager in argos galway refused to give him the second.
Said it was only one per customer.

You didn't study economics did you?

Money is not the only economic resource, a person's time also has economic value.

And what about people wanting to trade bikes and ipads:eek: for it, where was the money:pac:

Nonsense. The seller gets the same €99 per Touchpad whether he sells all 10,000 he has in stock to a reseller or to 10,000 different people. If you queued for 100 years he still only gets €99.
In fact, it's better for him to shift them all at once as it's easier to do.

How is the free market working?where is the allocation efficiency, the supply and demand in relation to price. You either sell them to the highest bidder in which case the reseller isn't needed(as you can't sell them any higher) or to the person who queues the longest in which case their time in the queue is incorporated into the retail price of €99 and the store increases goodwill towards it.Why would Argos sell them all to one person at the low price so he can sell them on at a higher price? it makes no sense

Anyway this isn't the economic forum so i'll leave it at that incase of taking the thread of topic. All I'll say is there will be a lot less goodwill toward argos from some members of the public after this sale.

The article you quoted has nothing about HP reversing any decisions.

I ordered 2. 1 for myself and 1 for my wife. But I made sure it wasn't only 1 person collect both touchpads. In fact, when going in a day early to inquire about when they were getting their delivery, the manager specifically said that he couldn't give 2 touchpads to 1 person so 2 people would have to come to collect them.

Those touchpads could easily have made their way to people who wanted them if the profiteers hadn't snapped them up first. The reason people weren't lucky enough to get is because profiteers were buying them up.

And as for the communism argument, do you realise that the point of capitalism is that you pay people in exchange for goods and services or some benefit and in exchange. The only thing these people offer you is that they relieve you of even more of your money. The touchpad you buy from them, you could have just bought in a store for far less. Instead you are paying them extra to have denied you that ability.

well, your arguments are invalid as there is not enough stock for 95% (?) people that want to buy one for €99

IF there would be like 500 millions of them then you would be right
and then i would agree if someone would buy them all and resell without "added value"

but as there is only 250k (?) of touchpads thing profiteers do is allowing unlucky people to get one if someone is ready to pay extra
