Is there any way of doing 3 subjects in Second Arts. I was wondering if anyone ever did 3 subjects in Arts. I would like to continue on with 3 subjects as I like them all and I am finding it hard to choose just 2!

I know I don't actually go to NUIG, but I have a BA from the NUI and they're all the same really :p so i'll answer your q.

You can only take 2 subjects to degree level in Arts as if you did 3 you wouldn't gain enough credits in any of the subjects to be eligible for a degree. So I'm afraid you're just going to have to choose.

OP I highly doubt you would be able to keep up with the demand three subjects at 2nd or 3rd years arts would put on you. Two is more than enough for anyone to be kept super busy! You will simply have to choose. Try to pick two subjects that compliment eachother very well!

no you can only pick 2. i think its because of the timetable for the year and exams and stuff like that. they expect you to work hard on the two subjects you have because there is alot to do in each module.
what three are you torn between?

What if you were like Hermione and applied to the ministry for a time turner and thus you would have enough time to attend 3 sets of lectures?

I thought not but wanted clarification.

English, French and Spanish. I am definitely doing English. So it's a choice between the two languages. Probably will do French but it would have been nice to do Spanish, if only the grammar as I would like to be able to speak it.

    Thanks for the replies

just my opinion but english and spanish would be a better combination. handy for teaching english in spain. you would find it far easier than most. plus i think alot of people choose french. just my opinion though :)

    Hi tbahh,

Although you can't carry on more than two subjects with an Arts degree (unless you're in a Connect programme), with your combination of subjects there is a way that you can continue to study all three.

Both French and Spanish offer evening diplomas. I am not positive, but I think that if you have studied either language at degree level for a year you can head straight into the final year of the diploma. The fees listed on the website are steep, but I think that as a current student of NUIG you are entitled to a reduced rate (around 200 euro for the year). Again, check with someone to make sure!

Also, I've just finished my second year studying both French and Spanish (currently kicking back in la belle France on Erasmus :D), so if you have any questions about either of the courses I might be able to help you!

@musical.x I don't think I could possibly do that to french, it would feel like I am cheating on it with spanish

@becca. Thank you so much for the information. I e-mailed them a few minutes ago as the closing date is the 31st August. Have a great time in France!
