Look at all the pr generated for dabs and elara yesterday in addition to over 1000 users signing up to elara alone, that's potentially a lot of new customers in the future if they can get people back to the site with offers etc.....

Argos will want to take benefit of something similar, create a frenzy and get people in their shops.

I was lucky enough to get a touchpad on Mon so I'm just trying to look at it from a different angle, there's a lot of desperate folks on here and also a lot who believe they have a god given right to one since they have a golden reservation.

If you have one i suggest you feck off hehe!

Well, I assume everyone who reserved a touchpad when it was advertised >€500 and none of them have any intention of purchasing at that price, so no one reserved in good faith.

I am 5 mins away from an Extra store and I dont think I will bother. The more I think about it, we are paying 100 quid for what is essentially a web browser. There will be no new apps for it, and I have read that Android 2.x may work on it, but not Honeycomb. I wonder how many will be bricked trying to convert it.

I also wonder if the current apps that work on it will cease to work over time as the providers stop providing support for the OS (thinking any app that needs to go on line to get data).
It could also be argued that people reserved them knowing the price would drop, and it has. If it didn't then yes people would have maybe screwed Argos, but it did :)

I don't see how, they have a reservation system, people used it. It's tied into their expected stock levels, I think it's reasonable to expect them to honour it as far as possible, not just cancel all reservations.

Actually, a lot of devs (including myself) are committing to webOS thanks to the huge new userbase and the possibility of a future hardware partner. HP have also said that they will support current hardware with software updates and App Catalog service for the foreseeable future

When this is all over do you reckon we all need to get "I saw history" t-shirts like they had for Packie Bonners penalty save in Italia 90?

Not really true - most people who reserved early did so in the knowledge of what happened in the US over the weekend. There, people who bought at full price were refunded the difference between the price they paid and the firesale price.

Any news on the orders with FNAC.com?

I am less and less hopeful about this as long as it stays as "order preparation" ...anyone have a new status (or remember some junior cert french and fancy getting an update from them???)

Is it only the Argos Extra stores that may have the Touchpad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭bifl

Just got off the phone with Argos customer care and the chap I was talking to reckoned reservations would be honored. He tried to ring the store as they are in typically an hour before opening to fully confirm but there was no one in. I will try them myself a little later.

Anyone have a spare reservation order? Or perhaps if people that have reservation numbers try and buy it without using the reservation number and then give them to boardsies. That way we all have a better chance of being happy.

Who screws who depends on what price you reserved it at. They may keep your reserved touchpad, but at the full price... as that would be what you reserved. It would be interesting to see what price that they ask from you.

My fnac is still preparing the order but upside is that its not yet cancelled so fingers crossed! Seems like fnac havent shipped to anyone yet

Yeah but if you get there and they say that then you can just cancel your reservation and just buy it at the lower price.

Argos rules are the price you pay is price on the day, even if it goes up.

My understanding of their reservation system is that you always pay the store price on the day of purchase. If the price has dropped when you go to purchase you pay the lower price, equally if the price has risen you pay the higher price. This is the way the reservation system has always worked, and all I expect from them is for it to work the way it always has.

I agree, Ill certainly be looking to move over to WebOs, if I get a touchpad or not. Especially now since google has shut down the developer forums.

I would of thought google of all people would know not to mess with your developer community, look what happened to Microsoft.

Am working in near Blanch, worth a trip over to Argos in the shopping centre or am I wasting my time. Online gives you no indication what so ever.

My reservation is valid from tomorrow on. Does anyone know if you can usually pick a reservation up early, subject to stock?

I've sent hubbie to argos this morning - no one else there at the moment. I don't think we've a hope, but he was at a loose end this morning anyway :D

Looking at the @argoshelpers twitter account here are some of their comments (not necessarily about a touch pad but probably safe to assume so ??)

Hi, if they are the dates that you have been given then you can collect the HP Touchpad from today until Friday.

Hi, the price you pay will be the price on day of collection of your reserved item.

Thought I wanted one of these, however what I really wanted was to see a Rick Asley video. Success !
