I got a Zenus Carbon Black case (actually leather), slim and covers phone pretty well, comes with screen protector - not cheap but I like it

I bought a pack of two cheap ones on ebay and they are perfect, once you put them on right they are much of a muchness, put them on poorly and even the costliest one is useless

So guys, what do you think?
    • Sim Free and maybe get a three ready to go sim when contract runs out with Vodafone at a cost of €550
    • Try get upgrade on Vodafone and stick with them another 18 months with 1GB less data and no free data roaming? Phone should be free

I guess it completely depends on your use, if you don't go over 1GB/month, well that change doesn't really matter, if you do routinely go over 1GB - well that will make the vodafone option very costly.

Same goes for data abroad. If you are away a lot and need to be always data connected, that will make it very expensive, but if you only travel for pleasure and only need to connect ~ once a day to check emails or whatever, well than you can usually find some wifi for that.

I'm a business customer with vodafone, and they sent a message recently that said I do can use my data bundle for roaming?
Just waiting for the bill following trip to France with a LOT of google navigation

I don't seem to go over 1GB in the month but you do see some spikes in usage which don't reflect any use that differs from any other month so it's hard to see where it comes from. It then depends on what I'll start using the new phone for - something may make you use more data (different apps, etc, etc)

I only travel for pleasure but useful for using maps when heading up North or while abroad.

A lad I know mentioned he's on 3 pre-pay with unlimited data and he now uses the phone regularly for torrents - I'd just use the uTorrent remote though.

Agghhhhh - can't decide. Any one else on Vodafone go from an iPhone 4 plan with 2Gb data to the new €60 plan with the S2 or just buy it sim-free?

Is there any tweak to get your phone to only sync when the screen is on?

If you upgrade after March 2011 you lose this data roaming I think, as you are signing a new contract

There is no very simple way of doing this. You would have to use an app to do it. Super Power/Tasker and then create that setting. I wonder does using apps to monitor phone state (screen on/off) use as much power as you save. I certainly uninstalled Super Power as it was causing the most wakelocks (preventing phone going into low power state) on my phone

Looks like Vodafone won't approve my upgrade so it's going to have to be simfree :-( Got on launch date on €60 a month so just over 12 months and they won't release an upgrade for another few months :-(

    Where's recommended for purchase simfree?

Gonna hang on until the end of my contact and may move to three prepay for the unlimited data...

BUMP: So anyone know where's best to get my hands on one of these sim-free? Wouldn't mind ordering one online or buying one across the counter today / tomorrow...

Vodafone PAYG is the cheapest AFAIK (€479), pretty easy to unlock and debrand, or try adverts.ie for a new sealed unwanted upgrade phone for ~€400.

How easy is "pretty easy" to unlock and debrand?

It's very easy, it's more the reading the instructions hundreds of times before you do it that takes the time.

You need a PC and the micro usb cable (in the box)

No but KH3 out now :)

Cheers Zagato. I didn't get around to KH1, so I'll try KH3 over the weekend.

Apparently KH1 wasn't great, but KH3 getting better reviews.

Pulser reckons that there will not be much improvement in new firmware releases on 2.3.4 (I guess it's pretty much optimised)

Anyone have any battery issues with this phone? Have mine just over a month and today the battery drained by 1:00pm - I barely used it at all. Most days with heavy usage it's still 40% by the time I hit the sack.
