RightaI graduated last year and never had to repeat, but my brother is a student up there right now. He cpmpletely screwed up his 3rd year and failed nearly all his modules with not much chance of his passing the repeats.

I was just wondering, what is the procedure for repeating 3rd year? He knows he wont progress into 4th year so there would be no point in him waiting for the repeat results before shifting into 3rd year. So i'm advising him to sit 3rd year lectures in the mean time.

But what I want to know, after he receives his results what will he have to do to repeat?

(Note: we were always told that not turning up to exams stands against you. The idiot didn't sit a few of his original exams. Anyone know will this give him a problem in being able to repeat?)

    My experience:

Not turning up to exams in a way does stand against you, as you have to go to your year head/administraor and perhaps the director of that department (which never happens, it's always the year head) and give them some BS about why you did bad, and how you're going to do better etc etc, and they might point out if he really wanted to do better, why didn't he sit his repeat exams?

However, after copious bulls**t and persuading about how you've totally reformed into the worlds greatest student, and after them making you feel bad, they let you through.

Ahem, now then, this is the form he needs

I might also add that it's costly (around 3-4k mark though it depends). And one cannot apply for a grant for a repeat year.

Best of luck to your bro :)

If he failed literrally all of them and is repeating the year, it'll deffinately be the full whack, is he really sure he wants to do the course? It might be worth sinking the money into a new avenue, rather then one he's already probably lost interest in? Wish him the best either way :)

Especially if he failed 1st year. 3rd or 4th I can understand repeating, as he's already vested time and effort, but if it's first year, I'd deffo echo what Brendan said above.

It's 3rd year. He had a complete horrowshow this year but it'll be worth him repeating and completeing the degree. Especially since he's already been studying for 3 years now.

Also, if he doesn't i'll kill him :P
