Progress is going well on site.
Airtight Membrane and taping is complete and Builder is slabbing the ceiling before D-Day (Blower Door Test scheduled for Tuesday)

Once this is complete I will need to add 2 access opening to the attic.
How do people deal with airtightness and insulation on attic hatches.

I looked at the Stira site and they mention and insulated hood but no mention of Airtight.

What have people been doing to address this?

I was in a house recently that was as airtight as possible and they had a plastic type access hatch that had like a sealing strip all around it and was a very tight fit and was lockable to keep it in position , sorry i dont know the name but it shows there is products out there for this use.

I had my attic opening in place and ready for Attic Stairs before the Airtight went in. they left my some tape then, to airtight between the frame of the attic stairs and the frame cut out in the joists, Then I got a decent quality attic stairs. Its has decent seales and is insulated. I am far from being in, but I am considering building a type of lid on the attic side, with insulation on it, like a hatch, I pull over before i close the attic as well. Needs some thinking that one.
    maybe overboard!

Folks, Airtight hatch is one thing, but i assume the OP still needs to worry about air tighting the box frame in attic to the attic stairs frame

I fitted one of these (the German ones from a supplier in Athboy) last weekend and they provide detailed instructions including air-tight tape for sealing the frame to the opening. I haven't yet had the air-tightness test, so don't know if they're worth the money yet. It looks much like a standard hatch with basically a rubber seal around the door, a strong spring and about 30mm of foam stapled to the back of it.

I was told by someone from Stira back in August that they had an airtight attic stair coming onto the market in the Autumn just gone. The price I was given was cheaper than the one from Athboy, but I cant verify if either are any good. We are coming to that stage now and I will come back to it in the new year.

Hi Fergus, any chance you could send me the airtight attic hatch details too?
Has anybody else used one of these hatches since? I'm wondering how they compare to the stiras on the market, especially when used regularly. and more importantly how they did in the airtightness test :)
    thanks
