calculating acreage/hectareage from a map

anyone know how to measure acreage/hectareage from an OS map?

do know scale now - 1:2500

grid and get sqare cm - then try to convert?

Theses a link here for website to check area of fields. Search boards for field area and you will find it in that thread. I am using my phone now so i can't get it for you.

If it is 1:1250 cm's it is 1 cm on the map = 1250 cms on the land or 12.5 metres.

If your lucky and its a square field its length by width to give area in metres squared. I think its around 4050 square metres to an acre give or take

I scan the map and improt it to CAD, scale it up and trace the boundaries with a closed polyline which then give the area in m² and can then be converted to acres or Hectares. Of you can buy digital versions and import them directly to CAD. Measuring with a scale ruler or a grid off a map will be very innacurate.
