I don't get why people get so worked up about others celebrating it? If you don't like it, don't celebrate it. End of.

    To Marshas
Whatever I'm sure loads of the stuff will be consumed on said day especially as it's a Friday this year. Could do with changing that poxy ad. Third year in a row, lazy marketing.

Arthur Day only helps to reinforce the drunk Irish stereotype.

Only tossers buy into it, TBH. Like "Steak & BJ" day. Lowest common denominator stuff - they're the same people who read tabloids & Nuts/FHM too, and have an "if found, please return to the pub" t-shirt.

Never paid any attention to it before. Not a big Guinness drinker. Might go for a pint this year though because I'll be overseas, so might pop into the nearest Irish pub to see if they are giving it any attention for the craic. I'll toast Arthur with a pint of lager.

Why bother? What's the point exactly?

Explain what? You don't know what "Steak & BJ" day is? Every year, goofs on here make a topic about it.

I know it's the "cool" thing to hate all these big events but Arthur's day is great fun. Sure its commercial but it's still a great day. And guess what folks, I didn't see anybody get robbed/stabbed/beaten up/murdered on Arthur's day yet.

No point. Like I said I have never paid it attention before. It's clever marketing, but who says you can't buy into clever marketing now and again? There doesn't have to be a point. Like I said I might pop into an Irish bar and see if Guinness do anything/even mention it there or if it's only an Irish scam.

    Happy Diago marketting day everyone!

Christ, they even move his 'birthday' to fit in with their core demographic's consumption habits.

I knowill be celebrating it this, the last two years i havent been able to as ive been working nights but this year ill be making sure im not working. For those who thinks its a disgrace etc do us a favour and sit at home that day, i know ill be out enjoying it. I dont even drink Guinness but if it brings out people in good spirits like a concert or xmas eve in the pub then ill certainly be taking part.

There's a day each year called "Steak & BJ" day - it's supposed to be a "lads" day, and usually some goofs start a topic about it each year, and pretend that it actually means they'll be getting a blow-job & steak that day somehow. It's lame as can be - it's a day for the Nuts/Zoo reader. "wey hey - football, tits, cars, and steak!".

Blatant ploy by guinness, but a genius one at that. Look how big the whole thing is, and this is only its 3rd year!
Yes its enforcing stereotypes about Irish drinking, but lets face it, most tourists are coming here for the "craic", a pint and some Irish spirit.

I was out for it in town (Dublin) last year, and it was good fun. Didn't drink guinness because I personally think its pretty nasty, but still.
Good atmosphere around Dublin, lots of bands playing the different venues/bars.

I don't see people's problem tbh. If you have a problem with the drinking culture, fair enough, but this 'holiday' is hardly contributing to this significantly. Yes, Guinness are making money, but it draws tourists in in what is probably a relatively 'slow' month after the summer tourism buzz.

If you don't like it, or don't want to 'celebrate' it, remember that no-one is making you! Leave us plebs to mindlessly "buy into" this and be controlled by the marketing directors.

Brilliant marketing by guinness. They now have their own national day purely down to their use of tv, radio, print an online.

Absolutely pointless day if you dont drink guinness though and the waiting time at the bar is a lot longer for a pint. I hate the day and shant be frequenting my local boozer.

Otherwise known as the fundamentals of life.

    With beer of course.

It's just the biggest non-event not even worth acknowledging because it's one big shameless attempt at making money off idiots. The first one, fair enough, 250 years in business for a globally recognised brand which is synonymous with Ireland.

No other type of company could make this sort of event. But when it's a drink company, suddenly everyone wants to celebrate it. Celebrating Guinness in a pub by drinking bottles of Bud and a shot of Mickey Finns because "that's Irish too". People who think falling down some stairs, losing their phone (again), pissing on the street and getting sick in the back of a taxi constitutes "a gr8 nite out lst nite!!!!!!!!"

Well done. Well done on living up to the stereotype that all Irish people want is drink. Well done on submitting your will to a company's TV ad. Well done on celebrating Guinness and then not drinking it again until next year's Arthur's Day.

I have no problem with the drinking culture. My issue is with dumb sheep who buy into this hype like puppets. It's not a real celebration, people - it was made up specifically by Diagio to herd in all the idiots & sell more booze. Congrats on being part of the easily manipulated.

Yeah, hopefully the factory will give you the time off this year. Don't forget your Ben Sherman shirt.
