I have a fairly stupid question to ask but can't find the answer. So if I have the T2 with a HDD connected, usb powered and I schedule a recording at midnight and I then power off, its able to power up and start recording onto the usb drive no bother without intervention?
Secondly, will channels on the 2nd mux still allow someone like elderly record away fair city and all that once they don't want to watch and view at same time?

You sure can! You can set a scheduled program to be recorded and turn the box off (into standby) - once its still plugged in it will record that program and store it on the hard drive - i havent used a 2.5" drive but it definitely works with my 3.5" drive - 100% Superb! Theres no indication its recording except that my HDD has a read/write light that starts blinking at the anointed time! Ive checked and it works - A+

    When the second MUX starts you can record a station on one MUX and watch another station as long as its on the SAME MUX;

EXAMPLE - HYPOTHETICAL MUX CHANNEL LAYOUT

    MUX1:
    RTE1
    TV3
    3e
    TG4

    MUX2:
    RTE1+1
    RTE2HD
    RTEJR
    RTE NEWS NOW

In this hypothetical line-up you can record RTE1 and watch TV3, 3e, or TG4 - You cant watch RTE1+1, RTE2HD or RTE NEWS or JR - The same is true with the second MUX if your watching RTE1+1, you can record RTE2HD etc etc

Hope this answers your questions -

To be fair i should point out one VERY SLIGHT "Down Side" - The Humax is not "Classic Teletext" compatable - Thats no issue for the RTE stations - But TV3, 3e and TG4 are all broadcasting their Teletext in "Classic" mode - So they don't work with this box -

AGAIN - i would hardly call this a fault: with Digital Aertel there i never use TV3 or 3e Text - Isn't much on it TBH!

So it doesn't currently display subtitles then Liamtech?

Hey guys - Just finished uploading - i mentioned in the video that i havent been able to get subtitles working on TV3 or 3e but i see GBCullen might have figured it out - Hope perspective users find the video useful but bear in mind the subtitles may be a goer on TV3 and 3e after-all! - They video is in two parts, hope i didnt miss anything - Apologies in advance - i think i may have gone OTT and rambled a bit!

Great video review. Fair play to you.

On the recording function - roughly what amount of disk space would an hour of say RTE1 use or disk space for an hour of RTE2?

Rule of thumb for SD recording is allow 1gb per hour.

Well explained and I'm now kinda hooked. I'd love to know is anybody living on the east coast/Bray area using this box for Freeview also. I am setup with a satalite dish and aerial since February awaiting for things to settle down with the problems with the various boxes. After your positive review, I might now consider erecting a second aerial for freeview and forget about satalite.

Ok, here's how you get AERTEL on the Humax T2.

NB You can't view AERTEL via the HDMI/input cable as it is not digital. So you have to view saorview via the SCART but when set to RGB picture is still brilliant.

Step 1. Set up the T2 remote to control the tv by using codes at back of book for all makes of TV, if your TV is not listed then it won't do AERTEL.

Step 2. Once T2 remote setup correctly, select TV on T2 remote and then to get AERTEL press the ..... opt+ button just above the TEXT button and bobs your uncle. And it works on all channels, what a piece of kit, if and when we get series llink and it works on this box we are set fair.

the exit button gets you out of text, button with a book mark gets index, p button moves up and down pages. Arrows on centre control can move pages as well.

This now gets rid of the subtitles issue.

enjoy and say if it worked for you.

I recorded roughly 2 hours of RTE2HD and it seems to be taking up around 7GB - Glad you enjoyed the review - i reckon i rambled a bit but most of the good stuff is the second video

2 questions from viewer in NI who wants a PVR that covers both Freeview and Saorview - (1) Can you get Freeview channels on this as well as Saorview on the same epg or do you have to change country setting each time in the menu?
    (2) If answer is yes can you record a Freeview channel while watching a Saorview one and vice versa?

As far as im aware if your within coverage of both RTE Saorview and Freeview, then this box will pick up and display both - Youll have BBC channels and RTE channels on the EPG with the British channels taking the regular channel numbers 101, 102 etc and Saorview starting at 800!

    (2)
Freeview and Saorview are by definition being broadcast off different MUX's - In this case freeview is being broadcast over several MUX's -The same limitation applies - You can record a station - and while recording said station you can watch another channel being broadcast over the same MUX - Asa saorview will more than likely never be broadcast on the same MUX as freeview you will never be able to watch RTE and Record BBC or visa versa:(

HOWEVER! If like me, you have a Digital TV, you can connect your TV to the aerial via the Antenna OUT on the back of the HUMAX - And use your TV as your second tuner - Thats what i intend to do when the second MUX comes online!

    Hi Lads

I got this box and am very pleased with it.
word of warning, it wouldn't respond to remote control or front panel buttons until i updated the firmware, so don't be too quick to send it back to the shop!

Was wondering if any of you managed to get the remote control working with the Humax Foxsat? its a bit annoying having 2 similiar remote controls when one would do the job.

    Thanks
    Kenny

    Bought this machine today.
rte starting at 819, rte 2 820 etc...
at 800, 801 is listed future channels!!??

thought i would have got the bbc hd and itv hd but they were not listed. googled it since. am i right in thinking freeview hd hasnt lauched in NI yet? shame so, as it was one of the reasons i bought this.

uploaded the latest softwarre from the humax website but havnt got around to connecting an external hard drive to check the pvr.

bought this humax for just under stg90 in tesco

No HD on Freeview yet from NI. I am on west coast IOM so get main muxes from Divis but also get HD and some Freeview Lite channels from the local relay here (Beary) which has switched over to HD.

Not a sniff of any digital RTE from CC (although I get the analogue ok). The digital channels at CC do not register at all on the Humax although I get a signal strength reading of about 55% on the TVs signal meter - no pic though! Still waiting for the 'wick' to be turned up!

Hit problems with this machine on the 1st few days already.

uploaded the latest software for it. was trying unsuccesfully to get the pvr on iti working with a 4gb usb stick when the remote stopped responding.
have turned the maching off and on and removed the batteries and re-installed them to no success.

searched on line but cant locate anything of same issue.

    anyone any suggestions???

Does the remote for this box have TV, PVR, DVD, AUDIO etc. buttons on the top, so that you can use it as a sort of universal remote? The Humax Freesat PVR remote has this function. Just ensure you press the PVR button first, then the box should respond. The PVR button will light up when sending commands to the box.

it wont pvr with a usb stick, it has to be a HDD formatted by the humax to its own format, follow instructions carefully. You cant copy files from hdd its all encrypted by humax. This is a very good box but it has no fancy bits.

Currently receiving the Freeview HD channels from this box via Cambrett Hill in southwest Scotland. Signal sterngth seems to be better over the last couple of weeks than it has been for a year or so. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the HD multiplex coming on ?

The Freeview HD channels look really good. Thought the proms was excellent this evening on BBC HD for example. Likewise, the Open.

Can't wait until next year (hopefully) when NI finally switches, the new mini RTE mux starts, and Clermont Cairn increases power and removes the null to the north.

It's just frustrating that we always seem to be last with these things with respect to the rest of the UK.The DAB situation in NI is another example.

It now has the BBC iplayer and a few other web based services, including internet radio.

Radio Nove sounded especially good although it's a bit slow to access.

Have they advertised for the DSO manager's position yet ?

Thought this was supposed to be filled in September, which is now only 7 weeks away.

They advertised the position last April with an April 28th closing date - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056240023.

The job description indicated the position may be part-time until Sept 1st, then full-time until end Dec 2012.

Haven't seen an official announcement yet.

Living in Armagh. Bought the Humax HDR Fox T2 on ebay auction £230 arrived yesterday and have been playing around with it most of the day. Bought so I could receive broadcasts from the Republic and to future proof my Freeview stations. Freeview HD is not scheduled to broadcast in the north until 2012.

The box was set up in about seven minutes, although when I left the instruction manual down and started playing with the buttons it froze :o But that was 100% my fault and it was simply a matter of turning the box off at the mains having a cup of tea and turning it back on again.

Get my Saorview reception from Monaghan, and Freeview from Davis. All excellent signals. Tried to record RTE1 earlier today but the recording failed.

Have just completed a BBC1 recording and have scheduled another one on RTE2 for later on tonight will be interested to see how both playback.

As far as station channels go from 801 to 807 I have channels reserved for future use. Are these been reserved by RTE?

On 819 -826 I have the full set of Irish stations but no signal coming through on any of them !! However, from 837 - 844 I again have the full set of Irish stations and this time every one of them presents a perfect picture. :)

Channels 855 -861 are again reserved for future service. I'm thinking that I'm receiving a very weak signal from another transmitter down South.

EPG appears to be working fine.

A question if I might. How are you inclined to watch your television - use the Humax as your receiver all the time or use the television unless recording? I have my aerial 'In' to the Humax and aerial 'Out' from the Humax to the television (Sony Bravia kdl 32ex403)

Haven't had the box long enough yet to make a firm recommendation but so far it's looking good

I haven't got the pvr version so I use it (all the time) as a receiver. My old TV (Panasonic) does not have full HD so effectively I use the Humax to get the HD channels from Beary transmitter. My aerial is actually trained at Divis but the Beary HD (channel 50) is so strong it comes through even when (due to atmospherics) thers a problem with Divis.

No sign of any RTE channels from Clermont Carn yet may go for Soarsat depending on how that evolves later this year.

I notice that EPG will not load for the Saorview stations unless tuned to a Saorview station.

And similarly for the Freeview stations - I'm in Co. Derry

    Has anyone else this problem?

    Is there a solution?

    Any help would be appreciated

No sign of any RTE channels from Clermont Carn yet may go for Soarsat depending on how that evolves later this year.

Clermont Cairn should improve dramatically at the end of next year when the power in increased and the so called "null" to the north is removed (it should, hopefully, mirror analogue reception).

Every so often Saorview appears on my EPGs in the 800's (or 400's on my Philips TV) but there's no signal.

Bought the non PVR version of this box for Clermont Cairn but so far, no luck at all. It's now been relegated to Freeview HD (which looks really good) from Cambrett Hill in Scotland which, as I've been saying, appears to have become stronger recently.

If you're getting a good analogue signal from Clermont Cairn then Saorview should be OK after 2012.

I'm not sure if it's worth the effort faffing around with Saorsat unless you live in somewhere like Larne or Ballycastle (or in the shadow of the Castlereagh Hills) although, I suppose we'll have to wait untill things develope.

Saorsat is largely a DIY project in NI at the minute, as I'm sure none of local aerial/satellite installers will have a clue what you're talking about when you mention the Ka band, LNBFs or disecq switches.
I use the Humax to get the HD channels from Beary transmitter.

I take it you're down along the Ards peninsula somewhere ?

I've a similar problem here in Jordanstown with Freeview from Divis, some of which disappears under lift conditions. It gets replaced by Caldbeck which, believe it or not, comes in of the back of the beam !

Yes, I've a similar problem. I live in Armagh and receive Saorview via, I think, the Monaghan transmitter. I've the Humax HDR Fox-T2 HD PVR

I've two batches of Saorview stations one starts at 819 and shows nothing at all, the other starts at 837 and displays all the Southern television stations. At present I receive all Saorview stations perfectly.

As a by the way can anyone tell me what all these 'Future Service' channels are been reserved for e.g 855 through to 861

    Thanks kah22 at #59

I too have a Humax HDR Fox-T2 HD PVR.

When I tuned it I received two batches of Saorview stations – one on Channel 30 (from the Holywell Hill transmitter near Derry City to where my aerial points) and one on Channel 45 – probably from Moville transmitter. As the Channel 45 stations had a pixellated picture and broken sound, I deleted them.

Is it possible that you are getting a signal from two transmitters – Monaghan on Channel 55 and Clermont Carn on Channel 53?
