Anonymous isn't a single group, it's a collective if groups working towards a common goal (apparently).

There's no centralisation of structure therefore no way to tell.

Bear in mind also, anybody can claim to be a part of this collective, it's not a closed group

You should check out the trending on pastebin, since lulzsec started there have been a lot of copycats.

One of those groups performed a DoS attack against the CIA web-server, but that's not hacking I'm afraid.

That doesn't mean it was hacked. The performed a denial of service attack or distributed denial of service attack against it. It's not hacking.

I'm afraid I'll have to second this, I doubt it caused too much disruption and packeting boxes *isn't* hacking.

Unfortunately, the termed has been abused and misused so many times now - it's seen as anything mischievous with computers. There's a saying that used to go around 'Hack to learn, don't learn to hack'. I guess, only real hackers truly understand what it means.

It takes very little skill and a lot of patience to hack anything. In doing so you will learn new things.

I don't like the way "hackers" are portrayed in the media as they are normally viewed as evil individuals that dwell in a small dark room with a PC, and normally associated with financial fraud of some sort.
Programmers are, in a sense, hackers because they take code and manipulate it to what they want it to do. It is very similar to what real black hat hackers will do when they are trying to penetrate a system.
