Drumming question.

    Hi,

    I've recently started to practice the drums.. All was going fine for a while but now my the base of my right thumb cramps up really badly.. I've tried doing stretch's before hand and bought a rubber ball to try and strengthen my grip but to no avail.
    I use the matched grip and am right handed...

    Can anyone suggest anything to help this?

    Sounds like your holding the stick too hard, I'd say try to loosen up and let the bounce of the stick do the work. Also using your ring, middle and little fingers more in controlling the stick might help. Jojo Mayer's DVD is great for all this.

    I would agree with eoin5..i would also say you may be holding your stick too far away from the neat point or your trying to point the stick rather than moving your hand closer to the drum .
