It's not exactly like the books had loads of battles anyway.Pretty sure that's how the 1st book went tbf. It's not til later in the series, like Kings Landing, and stuff at the Wall that we got battles depicted.

Yeah. GRRM stays away from battle sequences. In Book you hear about the Whispering Wood and the Battle of the Camps in the past tense. Only the Northmen vs Tywin gets described, and then from Tyrion's PoV. Most battles are told from a distance in the series, (ie Tyrion commanding the battle in Book 2)

Well after watching a quite emotional end to Ned Stark I continued reading Part 2 of Book 3 tonight. Bad timing
as it was the wedding feast at the twin towers. Martin you heartless bastard

    Oh lord, that was awesome:
"Ma niggah Ned! They killed ma niggah Ned!"
I think there's a new meme in there.

I subscribed to his channel on YT, in the hopes that on some far-off day that we get to see his reaction to
    The Red Wedding
    .

Rite. 1st off was anyone else surprised that they left out Tyrions chat with Bronn about this first lover? Book 3 spoiler:
When I first read this , I had a hunch that Tyrion would kill his father. It seemed fairly important and finishing on "A Lanister always pays his debts" sealed it for me.
You should be happy after the most recent episode then. :)

Bit cheeky to skip both potential battle scenes. Tyrion should have been getting stuck in - and Grey Wind should have been ripping lumps out of people.

    Good stuff, though. :)

    Aye.
If I had any whinge at all, it would be to do with the Dire wolves, the lack there of and the size. In my head, they were a lot bigger!

The series is excellent for recalling the main parts of the story. The books give more details, sure, and some parts are a bit different, but pretty much everything's where it should be.

One thing that came as a surprise was the strength of the casting. I suspect I like tv series Tyrion a bit more than book Tyrion. And oh man, I'd completely forgotten how much I wanted to punch Sansa and Joffrey.

    In fact...

    Christ, that's therapeutic! ^_^

Enjoyed ep 9. But was kinda pissed they skipped out on Tyrion in battle like that. Thge slapstick humour was some of the only in the series, but it was bad timing cause he does get into the fight. Now it just makes him look stupid kinda.
And Whispering Wood was a bit of a let down too :( Overall it was still a good episode though
Any ideas on when pre-production for Season 2 will start?

Starts filming in July/August as far as I know.

    [/SPOILER].

I'm going to be saying that all the time now :P Such a great line

Bah, no battles!!! really annoyed that they chickened out of them but i thought the way they got past Tyrion's battle sceenes was quite clever. They also didnt really put in context that they captured Jamie from the siege of Riverrun. If i hadnt read the books i would have been confused.
Also no mention of Roose Bolton who lead the feint against Tywin Lanister.

Other than that it was a great episode, the Twins looked great and so was the depiction of the Freys. Great closing scene that saw poor ned lose his head. Must wander of to the tv thread now to see what the Unread thought of it....

Agreed. My sister didn't really get what had happened. They don't explain it at all, all of a sudden Robb has just captured Jaime and she didn't know what had happened really. Poorly done I must admit.

Can't wait to see the tv thread go mad when the last episode airs, no one has even come close to guessing what happens.

I have a feeling they might be disappointed in what happens....except for
    Dragons!

Most people don't seem to realize that it is a 7 book series.

Reading some of the speculation about what might happen in episode 10 is quite funny. It's like they expect loads of things to be tied off, the dothraki invasion, the white walkers streaming from the north, and loads of other things. They need a bit of a wake up call around expectations I think. and also on how many things can be fit into 55 mins (removing credits).

^ Yep. very happy with how they looked. I was worried they might screw them up.

Moving away rom the tv show for a bit.

    Feast For Crows Spoiler
Just after noticing during my re-read that the dwarf septon that Brienne meets in Duskendale later has his head presented to Cersei by three men looking to claim Tyrion's bounty. It's a bit subtle like most of Martin's writing but thats why I love his books so much

Again sometimes I wonder if I took things up wrong but regarding the evil witch person that Dany burns. I was pretty sure there was an admission on her part in the book of having caused Drogo's wound to fester etc. but wasn't even hinted at in the show only that she knew the baby would die.

Really enjoyed the TV show, just wish he'd hurry up and finish the next book sometime in the next decade!

I've always wondered about this, Drogo rips the poultice and bandage she puts on him off after it starts to itch and burn. Its only after he uses the mud bandage that the wound starts to get badly infected.
What your saying makes sense if she can see the future and it would also explain how she knew that Dany would be carried back inside the tent by Jorah.

    Loving that term!

In terms of the Drogo wound thing. I still am unhappy with the sudden septicaemia (?) that takes takes hold of Drogo. In the book it is small wound (of no consequence to the Khal) I have no problem with the TV series skipping straight to the Drogo on the verge of death scene, but I do think the book kills him off too conveniently.

It was a perfect ending, just a beautiful episode all round.

Only gripe i'd have was that there was no comet. Tho I suppose that can easily be put into the start of the 2nd series

The tv series turned me onto the books. Never was a huge fantasy fan but these are changing my mind. Love how the first book turned out but I have to say I'm starting to find the pace slowing. I'm about two thirds through book 3 part 1 and it seems that there's quite alot of filler. Some elements are great like the dany thread and beyond the wall. Without spoiling anything, do things pick up at all?

Ps my mate will be working on props for the 2nd series so anything of note il fill in :-)

I found the pace of book 4 to be much slower than the rest, and by far the least enjoyable for me. Hopefully book 5 can pick up, and there are a more appealing set of pov characters in book 5 than there was in book 4.

Book 5 is mostly about Dany, Arya and Jon so I think we can safely assume it'll be a bit more interesting.

    Casting suggestions for Stannis ........

For me I wouldn't look much further then Jason Isaacs he's made a name for himself playing unlikable humourless curmudgeons

US army ranger Capt Mike Steele(Black Hawk Down)

    20217-25650.gif

    Colonel William Tavington (The Patriot)

    jason-isaacs-photograph-c12147065.jpeg

    Michael Caffee (Brotherhood)

    brotherhood-isaacs11.jpg

dude could pull off Stannis in his sleep imo.
