    Hello all.

My niece has bought a new Dell XPS desktop. Fine machine, but outgoing audio on Skype is garbled. BB (UPC) fine - 1MB upload. I've Googled it and there appear to be an issue with compatibility. Anyone any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Freddie.

    Hi Freddie,

What is the speed of the connection(Speedtest.net)?
Is there a lot of traffic using the network the desktop is connected to, eg xbox, wii, laptops, tv..?
It could be a compatibility issue with the system.

Also, from what I hear it could be an issue with the integrated webcam or other microphone device.

Sorry for the delay in getting back. Microsoft Liufe Webcam which worked perfectly on the previous Dell machine. NTL Broadband. 12 Megs Down. 1.2 Megs up. Very stable.

I'd suspect your microphone alright. Borrow a friend's one that you know works well to rule it out.

As malachy mensioned, Try a friends one or you can get them in shops also, pretty cheaply. I remember seeing it in the €2 shop.

Further thoughts. I'm not familiar with the Microsoft Lifecam, is it a combo video/audio device? Are you using generic O/S or specific device drivers? Are they up to date? I'm just thinking you may already have all you need, may be just a question of configuring correctly.
