ok ok based on my last post dont laugh but they are 2 seperate questions.

So I have a .22 but want more range as the lands I shoot, I find it hard getting close to any quarry. I want to move to .223 and have looked at all the Gugi blink and hunter can see. I fancy the Sako or Tika but might be out of my range. Anyway...

Have you more versitility in range with a .223 by varying the rounds. For example say I want to go out and shoot some 'targets' at around 100 to 150 yards nice and steady but on another day I fancy some long range shooting at 300 to 400 yards... will the .223 give me this flexibilty by changing the type of round I use.

Can anyone recommend a book to get up to speed on ammo that would be in a dummy format for me.

Anyone know a coach or would themselves take a rookie like me to a range for a day to get to a good grasp of the basics. I can aim, shoot and hit target but I,ve learned thats the easy bit... I need the science now :-)

    thanks Mighty

    http://www.hornady.com/store/223-Rem-53-gr-V-MAX-Superformance/

look no further, light rounds fly faster and with less of a curve, but normally have a lower ballistic coefficient (thats a number that tells you how good it is in wind, the closer to 1 the better it is, normally Zero point something like 55 grain Hornady 0.255)

75 grain .223 are some of the best rounds for out past 500 yards. you need a special .223 to shoot 1000 yards, most use 90 grain VLD's (Very low drag bullets) but you need a special custom .223 to run these.

From this and you other recent post http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056294255 I reckon you need to spend more time with your .22lr before you even consider stepping up to a .223.

Thanks lads. Yes bunny I know I need to speed more time hence the request for coaching. In the mean time I want to plan ahead. So I need to consider the benefits of moving up to a.223 , the cost, the running cost with ammo etc. So when are you taking me shooting ;-) thks mighty

OP lots of people think they know how to shoot, more think they know how to instruct other people how to shoot, very hard to find someone who can do both properly ;)

Next time I'm going to Midlands I'll let ya know and sure I'll sign ya in and see if I can give you a few pointers or if you're really lucky I'll find someone else there better qualified than me who can ;)

Don't be in a major rush for a .223 the .22lr is plenty and if you do go for a .223 keep the .22lr too ;) If I only had one rifle it would probably be a .22lr :)

Bunny & Tackleberry... thanks for the advice lads and I agree 100% and as you can see I do want to know more. The more I read the more technical I can see this sport getting. Honestly I think you need to be qualified in physics and maths for this lol.

Lads I'm in Meath and indeed if you are in the area or I can get to you I would be delighted to get some pointers from you to help me on the way.

Any recommended books or DVD's would also be appreciated.

    Regards and thanks - M

if you are in Meath there is a good few regular posters on here from the South Meath North Kildare area.

I'm sure that could be arranged.
Do you have your own transport?

I'm not very familiar with Ash, but I know how to get there.
We could try yoke up a few of the lads that live in that area also.
