Hey there, think it's about time i got into some PC gaming.

My wants are pretty simple, just something that would play nice with my modest specs.

    CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 440
    RAM - 4GB DDR3
    MB - ASRock 880GMH
    PSU - 500W OCZ

Budget of €100, give or take another €30.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Really depends on what games and what monitor resolution, but I'm guessing a cheap HD5770 1GB will fit the bill :)

yup at a budget of €100 defo a 5770 probably the best price to perfomance ratio card on the market atm

This is a really good article on the relative performance of current graphics cards and what to look out for in each price bracket.

It's in dollars but you get the idea of what's available. The table in the last page is great for comparing Amd and Nvidia cards.

    Me again. :)

Definitely ready to buy this time after getting myself a new case, an SSD hard-drive, some decent cooling and unlocked a core on my CPU.

Has the landscape changed much at all? Would i still be looking at a HD5770. Budget would still be the same. What If I go second hand, will and older card give me better performance, even though it would be older hardware? Like this for instance.

    Didn't mention before, I have a 1920x1080 monitor.

Nah, don't get the 260. Is the budget still ~€100?

Where are you buying your items? Some places would have 6850s for just over €130. The 5770 has fallen in price and can be had for as low as €90 + delivery. If possible, aim for a bit more power unless you can not afford it. The 5770 will do the job nicely but you'll have to turn down the detail a little in parts.

I was actually humming and hawing over this yesterday. Would like to go a little cheaper if possible. But if there's going to be a big gap between paying 140 and 120, I'll go with it.

€138.735 delivered - that's pretty good. I don't see any of the mainstream places with it cheaper.
If you keep your eyes on scan's today only page or perhaps overclocker's weekly deals, you may do a little better, though you'd need to order a few things since the free delivery really puts amazon ahead.

Edit: sorry only just noticed it's out of stock ATM but it's still worth watching out for tho

Went with the Asus HD 6850 from Amazon in the end. €140 including postage. Can't wait now! :)

    Nice.

The sapphire one would have worked out cheaper though no?

By a few pennies. TBH though, i think i just had my mind set on the Asus one for some reason, plus Amazon are easier to deal with should something go wrong.
