Any one watch Frontline Battle Machines where the lad piloting a Chinook was shot in the head and still flew it back to base and then It wouldn't work again? Spoooooky

Not so spooky actually. They are known to be unreliable. ;)

It's less a case of being spooky and more a case of it having bullet holes in various vital parts. I'd save Most Haunted the trouble and send a flight mechanic rather than a psychic. No point in having something with loose screws seen by someone with a screw loose.

    Brilliant :D

Vital parts when hit by bullets when moving can work just fine till you stop.

Once you stop them moving... cease up.

Wouldnt blame it on supernatural occurances, more mechanics as others have said.

And the pilot hit in the head had it ricochet around his lid if I recall. Very similar event happened to a US army Air cav pilot in vietnam. The round rode around the liner of his lid inside.

    Sheer bloody luck, actually :P

it was extremely lucky. The round hit the windsheild off the top of the panel and off his flying helmet.

Saying a British Chinook in Afghanistan has "history" is like saying the North Sea has "been there a while".

To be fair, that show is presented by Mike Brewer and, while I'm sure there were some facts given in it, I'd take his drama with a pinch of salt. This is the same guy who gets terribly excited about 1982 SAAB's with leaky radiators. He has a penchant for overplaying a situation to the point of theatrics. Add that to the fact that he was scared to the point of involuntary bowel movement...

One feature does it for me... the cutout at the bottom of the grip.

Great for ergonomics, and better yet? You can instantly tell by feel your mag is in... genius! I've clearned too many buildings with an empty pistol before lol. Sheer luck that they were empty. Knowing you're loaded is vitally important, and that feature just impresses me :P

Just watched that Mike Brewster thing... Jebus the fella is thick. That or im just used to a lot more military knowlage in things... Sure, hes a raw civvy, but he didn't half whine for the entire show...

Ross Kemp makes him look like a sniveling simpleton with what he went through.

Err, Charlie, are you posting this to wind me up because I spoiled your awesome commando roll yesterday by having the cheek to shoot you? Where's that photo from? Is this a QAS job?

Clarkson's "sleeping policeman" rule is more practical than originally imagined.

I got a little wooly panda hat, with the intention of turning it into an LCD Soundsystem style balaclava for indoor matches over the summer.

Alas, the thing arrived today, and frankly, it's far too adorable for the purpose; I just can't bring myself to cut its eyes out.

My sources are the British Army, and Royal Air force. It's widely known our wokkas are not allowed into ROI Airspace due to some ruling i havent the inclination to research regarding thier mechanical 'issues' (falling apart)

Everyone is aware of the mechanical issues of the Chinook but I have never heard of it being banned in Irish Airspace.

If making a statement like that I thought you would be able to back it up or at least check whether it is fact or services rumour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

Funny cos if they're banned, why were there a good few flying about the past few weeks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

When I know something, I don't need to back it up incase someone decides to scream foul play. Its not a huge deal really.

If you want to know, its due to service records. Military airframes dont have the records civy ones require. Its the same reason 'i belive' that hueys that have ever been in mil service (even if civ now) arent allowed in there either. Chinnys or 'wokkas' as we refer to them sometimes are older, and ours are all military. The likelyhood of the yank ones flying around, is that they, and thier blackhawks, and the whitehawk marine one, have specific records of service for this exact diplomatic purpose. Plus they have likely never seen combat in those airframes.

The 'omg state your source' routine is a little overly agressive for what was a mild discussion on the subject.

Interesting? Yes, very. Machine gun? Not really. A more accurate description would be an anti-aircraft automatic cannon. No, I'm not having a go @ the poster, it's merely my frustration at not being able to play with nice toys like this myself

When guys like that can have things like that... It makes me want to complete my apocalypse bunker, and move down there with my wine cellar and collection of Blackadder Dvds.

Did you notice the barrel rise when he fired full auto (around 2:20)? How can it reliably hit anything? Where would the last round have hit if he fired a full complement on full auto? I'm presuming in a correct deployment this type of issue would be addressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Its nothing to do with airsoft, and frankly, I don't care. But if you're stuck in work, or studying for exams, pop this on, and go ****ing nuts.

In the video all the bullets hit relatively close on full auto
