Well, it is described as a "work of art", its partly done in silver and some of it is in chrome and its housed in a building that was inspired by the Le Mans track. I'm still not sure if its a good idea or not, I think its a shame it will never be put on the open road but its massively impressive either way.

Saw this in Pierse Motors in Tipperary Town.

From a distance it looked like a TTRS but wasnt as the rear spoiler was not evident. It has a Quattro badge on the front. Looks fairly sweet all the same.

    Taken through a window.

Isnt the newer TT's rear spoiler hidden into the body of the boot in the same way as the Audi R8 etc and only get raised in "aggressive" driving?

Its a Lancia Thema, and that looks a lot like the rare 8.32 version. It has an engine that is essentially based on the one in the Ferrari 308. If it is an 8.32 and it looks it with the wheels, side stripes, engine cover and rear spoiler, then its one of the best Q cars of the late 1980's

Dunno where I did get that wrong. I was most likely baffled by the Ferrari badged engine and yes, I think you're right in regards to what it is.

In the TTRS I'm sure its fixed and you can have it removed as an "extra". So in the newer models I'm just really not sure. Couldn't get in to see but I could see the top of the boot and didn't see any lines where a spoiler could be.

Yeah the RS comes with a fixed spoiler and you can have it swapped for the electronic one as a no cost option.

The white one has one of the new S-Line kits which is basically the same as the TTS now. The old S-Line is now what is standard.

That one looks like one of the black/white special packs, with the carbon fibre details and is a TDI afaik :)

The dealer was closed - 9:30pm last night - and the sign was too far away from the window to read. Shame if it was a diesel to be honest.

I was working in Wolfsburg for a couple of days and went to the Autostadt, some interesting stuff there, best part is the Zeithaus where they have plenty of older stuff on show.

There are some perfectly restored classics like this 1975 LP 400 Countach just dotted around the car park, a nice intro to the place

    GermanyMay2011006.jpg

1986 Italdesign Machimoto prototype using Golf Gti technology.
    GermanyMay2011007.jpg
    GermanyMay2011016.jpg

1936 Auto Union Typ C, V16, 6l, 520 bhp, top speed of ca 340. One of a series of inspired Auto Union cars that won all before them in the 1930's. They were also essentially the first GP car to start the concept of a mid engined car. This is a replica ordered by the factory in the 1990's.

Highlight of the museum for me was this, a Bugatti Typ 57 SC Atlantic. Hard to describe how beautiful this car is, the perfect balance between beauty, power and fragility.

Nothing spectacular about this car, the Gutbrod Superior 700E ? Well it was the first mass produced car to feature Bosch fuel injection instead of carburettors and it first came out in April 1951, just over 60 years ago. It was a sales flop.

    GermanyMay2011123.jpg

1977 Golf in (almost too) perfect condition, a brother of whom brought the joys of fuel injection to the masses.

A Golf Gti "Pirelli" edition, 1982, 1.8l, 112bhp. A special edition to run out the last of the Golf I Gti's. You can see the stylised Pirelli "P" in the holes in the alloys.

Greetings from the 70's!, lovely car, shame its the 50bhp 1.3 engine.

    Needs no introduction........

Beautifully restored Porsche 356. They had an extended display of various cars on the advancement of aerodynamics over the years.

    GermanyMay2011210.jpg

Not a Volkswagen but a 1936 Porsche Type 60 prototype. 985cm3, 23.5 bhp, max speed 100 kmh. Not an original but a true replica built by VW in the 1990s. The original was destroyed.

    GermanyMay2011214.jpg

Golf II Rallye, great car my ex GF got one in the early 90's and still has it!! Never built in RHD, in the background a Golf Country, the forerummer of todays SUVs. A competent enough off roader, I once drove one for a few days and its one of the worst handling crates I've ever experienced.

    GermanyMay2011231.jpg

Volkswagen W12 Nardo. It was built in 2001 as a test bed for the W12 engines found later in the Phaeton. It still holds several long distance world records. W12 engine, 6l, 600bhp, 1480kg, v/max ca 350 kmh.

    They should have built it.

And another highlight of sorts. This is the electric Golf, which should be ready in 2014 or so. I had a spin in it and its a great blast to drive, first time I ever drove a proper elecrtic car. Still a long way to go but its a start I suppose.
