Just started training on my MTB. I did a 14.3 mile cycle in 57 mins into a good head wind. What kind of average pace should I be aiming for. I'm training for the gaelforce and although I do a lot of running I really don't know much about cycling.
    Thanks

I think the only way I'll be hitting 70kmh is if i cycle down Croagh Patrick.

I started last october at about 15mph. I am up to 18.5mph now after covering 2000km since i started. Keep doing the miles, the average speed will creep up.

Do they publish Gaelforce times online? Try and find the times for the cycle last year, if they break them down by category and bike then even better, but it will give you a rough idea of what to aim for anyway.

    On a hybrid going into strongish wind I can usually maintain 20 - 24kph. Wind-free on a flat road, around 30 - 35kph.
Coming from the Monkstown Road into Blackrock with the wind behind me, 54.5kph peak.

Good idea. I'll look that up and that'll give me a heads up.
    Thanks

Try this link! It's a post I put up after GF last year including stats and a link to a spreadsheet with all the times from everyone for last year. You can muck around and re-sort that!
