It's over three months away, thats sh*t. I'm in the habit of booking my time off about 6 or 7 months in advance because of this sort of crap.

Pull a sickie and tell them you hurt your leg. You'll be limping for a couple of weeks afterwards, So will be easy to pass off afterwards :-)

Are you still ok for Portumna?

its a bit early for practising slow run pace, I would have though ? Perhaps wounded knee might advise . The faster your cruising pace the quicker you will get to your goal so speed does have a part to play. YOu only need a few runs closer to the day to get used to the slower pace. YOu can keep your endurance without backing off the pace completely Othewise you will find yourself down the back with me

yeah thought about what you said and decided to let comfort level decide my pace today in my 10 mile run.

Big difference for no real extra effort. I did my first mile really slow as i feel it improves the quality of my runs to to a slower one to start with.

We aimed for 3.59, we had the most dedicated pace group ive ever paced with. A huge portin of the overall marathon field. Id say a good 50 at just beyond half way. Down to about 15 at 20 miles and when we got to about 23 we still had 10. The banter was great and everyone seemed to be in good nick. 9 of the 10 it was there first marathon. At 23 miles a group of 4 (all friends) pushed on and 5 stayed with us till the line. First time ive ever paced where people stayed with us till the line. Some should have kicked on and some were hanging on by there finger nails. A scottish guy who ran the whole race with us and didnt speak once came over and thanked myself and tom and said he would have got about 4.30 without us. he said he wanted to give up at about half way and just kept going and going.
We were a min faster than planned because i had to ignore the mile markers and i was expecting a long mile at the end. It came but wasnt as long as id thought. Im not one for hanging around on finishing straights to make my pacing time look better. Had to leave straight away but i really enjoyed the day.
I think i had a fast one in me yesterday. The legs were pulsing with energy for the whole race. No probs at the end, i felt no more fatigued than at the start. I reckon i could have gone to 100k without huge trouble. I think ill have to adjust my pace for the 100k down a little, maybe to 8.45 and see how it goes:D

For this year yeah, ill concentrate on the longer stuff. Ill build back up again for next spring for a fast one. Its going to have to be barca again if i want to do conn ultra. Although there are a few alternatives around that time of year.
    Horses for courses mate:D
I dont think ill see you in dublin this year, you have gone beyond my times. Maybe 3.30 if im able for it:D

Think Barca is late and Conn is early next year - could have to be Seville in February then

Rotterdam would be interesting .... there seems to be a big Kenyan push to get close to the 2 hour marathon there for the last couple of outings, in preference over Berlin. Could be a bit of atmosphere there.

Is there a date for Donadea yet?

Stomach has been ****ed for the last couple of days. Cramps all morning and absolutly stinking farts. Didnt bode well for todays long run.
I went out anyway with the bogey tomach. Bogey wind out there as well which was a added kick in the stones for a big portion of my run.
Plan was first 10 miles at 5 min km. Second10 miles at whatever pace i fancied, probably 5.30 a km and a few miles run / walk to get a feel for it for the long races. I did what i set ut to do but it was a nightmare. First 10 miles in 1.19.xx. Last 2/3 of those miles on the beach with very very soft sand and the wind in my face. i kept up the 5 min km pace but the effort was more like 5k effort because of the strong breeze and my feet sinking into the sand about 6 inches. When i got of the sand my quads were wobbling and i nearly stopped. I perservered and did the second 10 miles in about 5.30 a km average. Never recovered from the beach section to be honest it wiped me out.
5km run walk then, walking pace 9 min km and running pace 5 min km. it averaged out just above 7 min km as it was 500m walk and 500m run.
All in all with the 2 bits 37.2km and i am ****ing wrecked

Went out today to get the legs and body nice and fatigued:D
This would be my second last long run before the 100k race. Im going to do a mini tpaer for cork to be rested as 3.30 is not a time to be messed with. After cork i plan on just doing medium and short runs before the 100k.

Wanted to try for 20 miles today under 8 min miles, didnt think it was possible to be honest with the fatigue i already have from the last few days and the stomach is still acting up plus it was hot as fcuk and i didnt plan on consuming fluids.

Long story short i got there just about but with not much in the tank at the end. Garmin was out of power so i used runkeeper which i find is very very close to the garmin on the stats so reliable enough. The app reset after about 11.4 miles so i had to restart it so the run is in 2 segments. The first half was way to fast so i did just enopugh in the second half to get me under 8 min mile average for the 2 sections.

    http://runkeeper.com/user/196213224/activity/36077395 7.43 a mile for 11.4ish miles
    http://runkeeper.com/user/196213224/activity/36085479 8.13 a mile for 8.9 miles
The average for the 2 is about 7.55 a mile i think.

13.1 miles pacing the wexford half today 1h44m25s. Very early start, was up befre 6 and didnt get alsleep till about 2. Was rushing out the door and forgot my garmin. Borrowed meabhs dow there and lost my connection just at the start line so was reduced to using it as a stop watch.

Race was nice and i enjoyed the course to be honest. Nice tough start with 70ish metres climb over the first 7km with a decent headwind in our faces to. Very nice running through johnstown castle to. Was running with menoscemo and i think we both found it easier than expected taking into account the early rise and the early wind. We lost alot at the start and we had about maybe 20 with us spread over 10 or 20 feet. We had 5 or 6 with us at the finish and some pushed on. One guy at about 13/14 km to get 1.41.

All in all i enjoyed it. Some sambos and tea put on at the end wich was nice. Course in kms which was a change in Ireland, the km marakers where bang on to the cm nearly. One of the best measured courses ive ever ran on tbh and this was essential bcause i was running with a stop wach and paceband effectivly. Plently of marshalls and 3 water stations in nice positions. Race started on time which is also nice. had both my baloons left at the end which is a first for me.

No problem giving this race 5/5 on the day. A nice if a little tough course for the normal joe soap that was very well measured and a bit of grub at the end with plently of marshalls.
