Played Dublin city today and I've never seen greens as bad. I know it's winter etc etc but every other course I've played recently were like st Andrews in comparison. Very disappointing indeed.

Oh yeah and there was a five ball holding the whole course!

    Never again.

that place should come with a public health warning.. and they should lay on oxygen tanks and mountain goats to carry you & your clubs. some of the gradients are just plain unreasonable!

i notice everyone keeps sayin dublin moutain is that the same as dublin city ? i used to be a member there and it aint that bad! !
Noticed that Dublin Mountain is getting a lot of flak.
Of all the the courses around that way, it is on the best piece of land ( ie. not hilly and 5 or 6 very good golf holes).
Ok standards are not as high, but it is cheap as chips.

Bad news, rahan is supposed to opening again shortly!

As for mount temple, what green is 45degrees? I like playing there but know a good few that don't like it too.

I was out in Rahan with work today, they hope to have the course open at the end of next week. New clubhouse built, lot of work done on the course with ponds added etc. and the driving range has been given a facelift.

    Must say it looks well.

At the risk of offending people, and opening the can of worms that is the etiquette and suitable attire debate, the last time I played up in Dublin City there was a five ball in front. We were bemused to see them in runners, tracksuit bottoms, and premier league soccer tops...until the sun came out, then it was shorts off and get a tan.

This is an amazing thread.the opinions are wide and varied. Was surprised to see Sillogue in the list. Played it this week and enjoyed it though the greens were slow and needed to be cut. Listowel is the worst course I played. The greens weren't just bad, they just didn't exist!! Playing golf for many years and it was the first time that I almost lost my ball on the green.

Ballinamona pay & play between Cork and Mallow is the worst i ever saw. Greens like fairways, fairways like.....

It was orignally an 18 hole course but was reduced to 9 holes. The 9 disused holes were about as good as the 9 in use...

    Closed now i think

i have travelled far and wide playing golf and come across some sorry courses from Dunbarry in Donegal

    Where exactly might this be??

Elm green is the worst ive played this year. Greens destroyed by pitch marks, tee boxes were in ****e, people wearing football tops and tracky bottoms playing was not worth the money they were asking, the only good thing i found out there was the practice putting green

For me it's Dunmore East in Waterford. The views are awesome, but the course was in bad nick when I last played there.

NEW FOREST is not a million miles bebind either, as bad and as cold as their food is at least they try.[/QUOTE]

Are you serious. Is this just a comment about food or the facility in general ? I played New Forest late last year and I thought it was first class !!!

Worst course I've played would be a place called Ardacong in Tuam, Co. Galway. Glorified pitch & putt course with tiny, slow greens. Not sure if it's still open. Always got a warm welcome there though and it was cheap & cheerful so I bear it no ill will.

Other very poor courses IMHO were Limerick County in Ballyneety (terrible layout  but great facilities - it's now closed) and Frankfield in Cork (sloping fairways are a disaster and tee boxes next to access road were a health hazard).

Dont understand people mentioning Slievenamon tbh, narrow fairways lined with trees, and some difficult par 3s.

Course is always in great nick, good fairways etc. The trees also make it a nice looking course. Throw in cheap membership, a great restaurant and friendly staff, and l think you could do a lot worse.

Anyone care to tell me why im wrong?

Agreed. Played in it's Monday Open 6/7 weeks ago and it's a fine course. Not the K Club but certainly has no business on a "Worst Course" thread... playing next week again actually!

In Cork, Frankfield and Fernhill would be contenders. Dunmore near Clonakilty was pretty awfull too, short holes with small greens like upsidedown saucers from memory

There's plenty worse than the Heath. Not a top course but far from the worst.

I actually agree with you. It's not marketed a world class championship course or anything and pretty much delivers what it sets out to do. Cheap and cheerful and a decent round of golf. That coupled with a bit of work done recently to tidy up the place a little bit. And they are taking really good care of the greens at the moment I heard recently. It's far from a contender for the worst golf course in Ireland.

And The Heath.. Don't be silly. Ok you got the sheep and all that comes with that but besides that there are plenty of good holes on the course. It's not short and the greens are of a good standard.

+1 to Frankfield, some of the fairways are ridiculously sloped, you're nearly standing sideways :pac:

if you think New Forest is bad, try Mount Temple or Delvin which are roughly in the same area, unfortunately have played both more than once and by the time I got to the 6th I'm thinking "why do I do this to myself"

Mount Temple isn't that bad, its always been in fantastic condition any time i've played it.

Not saying its the worst in the country, its the worst i've played, Highfield Golf Course. Its just golf in some fields, no real shape to it.
