I have an Acer Aspire one netbook. Is it possible to play minecraft on it. I don't want to waste 15 yo yo's on something that won't work?

Does anyone else use a netbook or would I need a higher powered laptop?

I wouldn't bother. I have a Tosh laptop with reasonably better specs than the Acer (Turion II chip, 2GB of RAM and some manner of 4XXX series ATI graphics) and it barely runs.

Sadly, not a hope in hell on a netbook. Go here and try to play the classic. You can see that it runs very badly, and if you try to run the beta it'll be a lot worse sorry to say.

I play it occasionally on an AA1, you're looking at 9/10 fps at the very most so it's quite jumpy, but it's not unplayable and if you've no other option it would probably do.:)

I can play it on an acer aspire one D255 netbook no problems. Just set the settings low. put the draw distance on short etc. Also I run it on arch linux it runs ridiculously slowly if I try play it on windows

    Arch Linux

Basically an operating system ridiculously easy on the hardware of your netbook. Minecraft runs about 20-30% faster on it, have a variation of it installed at work

    Works on that laptop.

Playing/hosting on main pc with Acer and Vostro and kids pc conencted fine.= for most part but Java ram usage sometimes lags out the Acer and Vostro.
