Well we've had electronic (Mavic, way back in the 90s) Shimano now and Campag' soon, we've had compressed gas (Shimano) and of course pedal powered shifting (again Shimano) which I really liked but seemed unnecessary, but now we have hydraulic shifting coming soon http://www.acros.de/PRODUCTS/GEARSHIFT:::3_134.html
Do we need it? It does of course look BEAUTIFUL and is very light, only 250 are available worldwide at the moment, this comes along as Shimano are planning on electronic shifting for their comfort range run off a hub dynamo,I LOVE this idea.
    Any thoughts on the subject??

FWIW I have no idea whether that patent applies to Acros's system. There is speculation that SRAM ought to buy Acros, in which case Shimano might wait a bit longer before commencing legal action :D

One of the things I like least about MTBs is the hydraulics. Don't fancy that on the road bikes, although I guess since there is no heat to degrade the fluid it might be fit and forget for the lifetime of the shifters, which has appeal.

Yeah I know what you mean one of my pet hates is bleeding brakes, but who knows it may be the way forward, the one that Acros is suppling was show cased in 2006 by the inventor Chistophe Muthers so I don't know about patents and the likes, who was first? Do they work the same?
This kind of thing excites me though, but I still love the old friction(you have to get the feel of it) shifters:p
