Not sure if it's possible to give a definite yes or no, as it may vary from frame to frame, but it usually can be done. I have a Trek 1000 that was originally running a square taper BB and now has a Hollowtech II one. If the BB shell has not been faced you may need to get that done first though, as you need the bearing cups to be able to screw in flush against the shell.

If you mean it's a BB30 (or similar) bottom bracket there's adapters out there to do the job. Enduro do some for sure.

Edit: reading the q again - if you're talking about a sq taper BB then you should be OK once the shell has been faced (or if it's very tidy from word go). I put a hollowtech chainset onto the OH's bike last year after taking off an old cartridge unit & cranks, no problem.

I assume the old bb is a square taper cartridge bb? If so yes, once you make sure that they are both the same size (i.e. English or italian thread)
