Installing Power Shower

    We currently have a pumped shower in the house and my father in law has offered to install a power shower for us.

    The two options are:
    1) Remove current pumped shower and install power shower in it's place over the bath
    2) Move sink and install shower & cubicle in it's place (my preferred option)

    I have attached a very basic pic. I would need to move the sink to the far wall (where the radiator) is to make room for a cubicle

    Would there be much of a difference in the amount of work required and the cost between the two options.

    A power shower runs off the hot tank and the cold attic. To decide on this you will need to decide if you have enough stored water to service your needs. Generally girls i count as 2 people so for example if its

    you, wife, son, daughter if you all shower on a saturday the hot demanded will not be there with a power shower

    However with a pumped electric it will always be,


    Now on the cubicle. A shower requires an 1.1/2" waste amd of the basin is running into the same one it should really be upgraded to 2" especially with a power shower. However I imagine as you wont use both at the same time 1.1/2" should be fine.


    Cost will depend on how much can be done yourselves however provided the joists are going the right way it will be a few foot of waste pipe and copper.

    Thanks. I tend to shower about 6am and the husband late at night so not too worry about the supply. The father in law installed a shower cubicle in his house a few years ago so would know what needs to be done on that score. He's in the trade so don't envisage having to get someone else in.

    Would there be much involved in moving the sink? There is only a radiator on that wall so I presume we'd need to put in a waste pipe and the hot/cold supply. And to ask a really blonde question, will these new pipes be laid under the floor?

    You will need to get it assesed but generally speaking it does not involve much. Its just a matter ro figure out how to hide the pipes with the joists.
