New Bike

    Can anyone recommend a good road/off raod bike that wont break the bank. I'm looking for something that will be quick on the road but will also allow me to do some light trails stuff.

    My job is curently running the biketowork scheme so I figure now is a good time as any....

    The main thing stopping a MTB being quick on the road is poor rolling tyres. If you want best of both then pick up a pair of sliks for road use (Schwalbe Big Apples are fast) and swap over to knobbles for trails. The only other thing is hand position which leaves you prone to high winds.
    If you're looking for a commuter, there's an OK deal with CRC for a KONA Drop, it's a disc break, racer with big tyres and rear disc breaks that allow for pannier racks.

    Get two bikes or a cyclocross. Two bikes would be best otherwise you'll get a bike that's not really good at anything.

    To be clear, it's up to the employer to choose if they wish to place any restriction on where the bike is bought (although many don't) - they are buying the bike initially
